cemetery60th Anniversary Fun Fact
Hidden in a residential area of Schaumburg is a small lot that houses a cemetery used by very early residents of Schaumburg Township. This cemetery, located at 217 S. Cedarcrest Drive in the Timbercrest subdivision, has gone by many names: Schween's Grove Cemetery, Timbercrest Cemetery and the Cedarcrest Cemetery. Ernest P. Schween, one of Schaumburg Township's original land owners, used this site as the location of several burial plots during the mid-1800s.
courtSchaumburg Court to Close Next Week for Construction Work
The village will begin improvements on Monday, July 18 to Schaumburg Court, which will require the closure of the entrance and road that leads to the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center. Customers are asked to utilize Prairie Center Drive off of Schaumburg Road to access both the municipal center and the Prairie Center for the Arts. Both facilities will remain open while work is being performed.

Additionally, while this project is being completed the village's water billing payment drop box will be temporarily relocated to the south of its current location. The USPS mailbox will be taken out of service by the Postal Service until it is re-installed.

Schaumburg Court is expected to remain closed from July 18-22 and July 25-29, weather permitting. Improvements include the resurfacing of Schaumburg Court, the relocation of the mailboxes and landscaping. Questions can be directed to 311 in Schaumburg.
compplanGet Involved in the Village's Comprehensive Plan Update
The village is updating its comprehensive plan that will serve as a guide for future planning and development in Schaumburg. The plan was last updated in 1996 and since that time, significant development and redevelopment has occurred in the village. The village will review the policies and directives in the plan to make any necessary updates.

A cornerstone of the project is community outreach and obtaining citizen participation.

Visit the village's website and do the following:
  • Utilize the sMap, an online tool that allows individuals to create maps of issues and opportunities facing their community.
  • Fill out the Questionnaire to provide additional input into the Comprehensive Plan.
  • Host a DIY (Do It Yourself) Workshop by requesting a workshop packet. Are you part of a group or organization that would like to host your own
workshop and provide feedback? These workshop kits provide everything you need for homeowners associations, churches, neighborhood groups, and others to provide citizen-led outreach. Completed DYI Workshop kits will be incorporated into feedback provided via surveys and public meetings.

For more information, contact Julie Fitzgerald or dial 311 in Schaumburg.

pokemonPolice Offer Safety Tips Amid Pokémon Go Craze
With the Pokémon Go fever hitting the Chicagoland area, the Schaumburg Police Department wants to remind you and your kids of some simple safety tips. As you battle, train, and capture your Pokémon, just remember you're still in the real world, too. Around the country the Pokémon Go craze has seen reports of accidents, injuries and even crimes where suspects have set-up fake 'Pokéstops.'  So as you or your children set out to capture them all:
  • Be alert at all times.
  • Stay aware of your surroundings.
  • Play in pairs or as a group to ensure your safety.
  • Do not drive or ride your bike, skateboard or other device while interacting with the app; you can't do both safely.
  • Do not trespass onto private property or go to areas you usually would not if you weren't playing Pokémon Go.
  • Be aware and tell your kids about "stranger-danger."  The app may draw strangers together in real life at 'Pokéstops.'
  • Parents: Be aware of third party software apps claiming to enhance the gaming experience. These third party apps only gives access to sensitive data - i.e. name, email and calendar.
