Important Fireworks Safety Information

The Village of Schaumburg wishes everyone  a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday. As a reminder, any fireworks that go "boom" or "bang" or that shoot or explode are ILLEGAL for you to possess or use in the State of Illinois and the Village of Schaumburg. The Schaumburg Police Department will be increasing its patrols during the holiday to respond to fireworks complaints and will issue citations for those in illegal possession of fireworks. It is important to note that property owners can be cited where there are fireworks being discharged regardless of knowing who actually set them off. The public is advised to call 911 to make any complaints regarding fireworks. Please refer to the village's Municipal Code on the website and leave the fireworks to the professionals for the safety of everyone. Speaking of safety, check out the latest video from the Schaumburg Fire Department on how to remain safe this Fourth of July!

Reminder: Tolls Begin July 5 on I-390

Beginning July 5, 2016, cashless tolling will be coming to the Illinois Route 390 Tollway from Lake Street to I-290. This is the first, all-electronic roadway on the Illinois Tollway system which provides for a safer, more efficient and seamless  method of collecting tolls from customers.

I-PASS customers can drive on I-390 and benefit from a 50 percent discount on tolls.

Don't have an I-PASS? Customers will save 50 percent on tolls when they get a transponder in person, online, by phone or by mail. The nearest I-PASS Customer Service Center is at the O'Hare Oasis on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294). In addition, nearly 200 Jewel-Osco locations in Illinois sell I-PASS transponders including 1151 S. Roselle Road and 2501 Schaumburg Road, both of which are located in Schaumburg. Customers can call 1-800-824-7277 or visit the tollway's website for more information.

boomersBoomers Honor Officers for Saving Life of 19-Month-Old
Schaumburg Police Officers Bryan Poradzisz and Kevin O'Connor were honored at the June 25 Schaumburg Boomers game in recognition of their efforts that helped save the life of a 19-month-old who was in respiratory distress this past March. Prior to the game, announcers recounted the actions of the officers who quickly arrived on scene that night at the side of the road and helped clear the girl's airway until paramedics arrived. The officers received a standing ovation from the crowd and were invited to throw out the first pitches of the game. Read the press release that discussed the officers' action in response to the incident.

electricalElectrical Aggregation Program Rate Decrease
In 2014, the Village of Schaumburg entered into a three-year agreement with FirstEnergy Solutions to supply electricity to Schaumburg residents through June 2017. Given decreased energy supply rates by ComEd, FirstEnergy Solutions recently agreed to decrease their energy supply rate from 6.61 to 6.18 cents per kWh. Residents who are currently enrolled in the electrical aggregation program will be notified of this price decrease and begin recognizing these savings immediately.

When the village entered into the agreement in June 2014, all current residents and small businesses were enrolled in the aggregation program with FirstEnergy Solutionselectricity, unless (1) they chose a supplier on their own, (2) they are included in ComEd's real-time pricing program (3) they are a commercial customer using more than 15,000 kWh per year or (4) they specifically chose to opt-out. There is no cost for enrollment and participants are not charged a switching fee.

If you have opened an account with ComEd since June 2014, you were not automatically enrolled in the village's program. FirstEnergy will be conducting a mailing to eligible customers currently receiving their electric supply from ComEd over the next month. The letter explains the program rates, terms and conditions and that you will be automatically enrolled in the program unless you follow the instructions in the letter and return the included "opt out" form within 21 days. When you enroll in the program, you will continue to receive a single, easy-to-read bill from ComEd with your FirstEnergy Solutions charges included, and you will continue to make payments directly to ComEd.

Those customers who are currently with another supplier are not eligible for automatic aggregation and will not receive a letter. Anyone who does not receive a letter and is interested in enrolling in the Village of Schaumburg's Governmental Electric Aggregation Program can contact FirstEnergy Solutions directly at (888) 651-5200 or visit their website.

For additional information on how the program works in Schaumburg, visit the village's website.

The Meacham Road bridge contractor plans to move traffic to the new bridge the week of July 11. This will put both directions of traffic in the outside lanes to allow work to be finished in the medians.
