The Benefits of the Older Adult Market

Are you familiar with Schaumburg's Older Adult Market? The market is a choice-style food pantry that distributes fresh fruits and vegetables along with shelf-stable food items (such as tuna, cereal, rice, and beans) to older adults in the community. The market is a collaborative effort between the Greater Chicago Food Depository and the Village of Schaumburg's Senior Program. Check out this great video featuring one of our volunteers who talks about the positive benefits of the Older Adult Market.

nextdoorVillage Partners with Nextdoor
The Village of Schaumburg is announcing a partnership with Nextdoor, a private social network for neighborhoods, to improve village-wide and neighbor-to-neighbor communications.

Nextdoor assists neighbors in creating online communities for their neighborhoods where they can ask questions, get to know one another and exchange local advice and recommendations.

With Nextdoor, Schaumburg residents can join private neighborhood websites to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities, local services and even lost pets.

The village has the ability to post information, such as important news, services, programs, public events, and emergency notifications to Nextdoor websites within the village. The village plans to use the tool to build stronger, better informed neighborhoods throughout Schaumburg.

trainingFire Department Trains at Schaumburg Regional Airport
Members of the Schaumburg Fire Department participated in a training held this week to familiarize themselves with aircraft based at Schaumburg Regional Airport. This training allows personnel to handle emergency situations involving aircrafts more efficiently.

The training included a brief examination of three different types of aircrafts: two small propeller planes and a slightly larger, jet engine plane. Tom Wojcik, an employee of Northwest Flyers, identified different areas of interest for each aircraft while Schaumburg Fire Department Training Coordinator Tracy Raimondo discussed different scenarios the fire department may encounter and how to respond to those situations appropriately. Both Wojcik and Raimondo helped members identify points on the aircraft that could be ideal places for cutting the plane to create a larger opening into the aircraft. Also mentioned was information about where the fuel is stored and where fuel shut off switches are located. They also examined the inside of the aircraft, noting various ways of entering/exiting the plane. The village thanks Northwest Flyers for this valuable training opportunity.
