Fire Department Trains at Elk Grove Tower

The Schaumburg Fire Department would like to thank the Elk Grove Village Fire Department for the generous use of its training tower for a series of drills that were held recently. The 4-story training tower has the capability to become a fully-smoked environment replicating a fire situation in a high rise building. Firefighters trained on hose advancement into the tower and going upstairs while on air and in full gear. Because Schaumburg has numerous multi-story buildings, including approximately 30 high-rises, this training is vital.

Village Looking for Host Families for German Visitors in Fall

The Village of Schaumburg is looking for host families to accommodate five to seven German visitors who will be visiting the village in late October. A host family will be needed for each visitor. Each host is responsible for providing accommodations, breakfasts & dinners, and transportation for their German visitor. The host will also need to provide meals and entertainment over the weekend period for the visitor and must reside in Schaumburg. In exchange for hosting a German visitor, the host will have an opportunity to travel to Germany during a future outbound exchange trip. The village established its Sister Cities relationship with Schaumburg, Germany, in 1983. Contact the Director of Community Services Kathleen Tempesta at (847) 923-4718 if you would be interested in hosting a visitor as part of this exchange.

sunstarSunstar Americas Celebrates Grand Opening

Sunstar relocated its former sites in Chicago and Elgin to the new Schaumburg site beginning last fall. The new 302,000 sq. ft. facility is located on an 80 acre greenfield site. In addition to toothbrush and pharmaceutical products production, the new manufacturing area, with improved hygienic environment and state-of-the-art equipment will allow expansion of product categories such as toothpastes (paste, gel, liquid), cosmetics and other high quality products to supply the global market. medsRxBox Program Reaches 10,000 Pounds Milestone
The Village of Schaumburg recently reached the milestone of collecting more than 10,000 pounds of unused medication through the RxBox Program. The village has participated in the DuPage County Health Department's "Green Initiatives" RxBox Program since 2009, providing residents a safe, easy way to discard unwanted medication. The Schaumburg RxBox is located inside the lobby of the Police Department and is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to drop off unused prescription and over the counter medication. Medication collected is safely destroyed in partnership with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
tollsTolls Begin July 5 on I-390
Beginning July 5, 2016, cashless tolling will be coming to the Illinois Route 390 Tollway from Lake Street to I-290. This is the first, all-electronic roadway on the Illinois Tollway system which provides for a safer, more efficient and seamless method of collecting tolls from customers.

I-PASS customers can drive on I-390 and benefit from a 50 percent discount on tolls. Transponders need to be mounted correctly. While multiple vehicles can be linked to an I-PASS account, each vehicle needs a separate transponder.

Since there are no toll booths or automated coin machines available along I-390, all customers are driving on an I-PASS Tollway. Drivers with an unpaid toll should make note of the toll collection location by identifying the toll plaza name, number or the nearest milepost, and go online or pay by mail within the 7-day grace period.

Don't have an I-PASS? Customers will save 50 percent on tolls when they get a transponder in person, online, by phone or by mail. The nearest I-PASS Customer Service Center is at the O'Hare Oasis on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294). In addition, nearly 200 Jewel-Osco locations in Illinois sell I-PASS transponders including 1151 S. Roselle Road and 2501 Schaumburg Road, both of which are located in Schaumburg. Customers can call 1-800-824-7277 or visit the tollway's website for more information.

Rodenburg Road Improvements (Village of Roselle)
The Village of Roselle will be completing work on Rodenburg Road immediately north and south of the Milwaukee District West railroad tracks. The required work will take a total of 2 to 3 days and will be scheduled during the course of the next two weeks. Roselle has tentatively scheduled the work to take place between June 16-24, but these dates may change due to inclement weather. The work will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m and will include lane closures with flaggers. Please anticipate delays associated with this project.

Frontage Road Resurfacing
Contractors are preparing to begin Stage 2 of the I-390 Frontage Road Resurfacing Improvements the week of June 13. The Stage 1 closure will be opened to traffic prior to the closure of Stage 2. Changeable message boards are in place, and the anticipated date of the Stage 2 closure will be updated, as required. Please follow the detour route when the closure occurs.

Access to Long Avenue will be maintained at all times. Lighting and signal upgrades will be completed with daily lane closures as required. Pavement improvements are scheduled to be completed by June 30, weather permitting, and lighting and signal upgrades will be completed by the end of September, weather permitting.

I-90 Tollway Updates
Expect to see a new traffic pattern on Roselle Road starting Wednesday, June 15 along with daytime closures to stripe new lanes and to relocate signs and traffic signals. Once that work is completed, northbound traffic will move to the new eastern lanes north of I-90.

Both bridge contractors continue to work on sections of pavement and bridge concrete to close gaps in their work. Once traffic moves to new lanes, expect to see the crews remove temporary pavement and begin building the remainder of the middle portions of both roadways. Remember to drive carefully through the construction zones. Be sure to visit the village's website for further information and other updates on this project.
