Sunstar Americas Wins Edie Award

Sunstar Americas in Schaumburg was one of five winners of the Edie Award which recognizes outstanding economic development projects completed in Illinois. The Edies honor those who imagine, design, invest, build and bring jobs, growth and prosperity to Illinois communities.

Sunstar Americas used $55 million in private investment and $3.5 million in public investment to build a new, 302,000 square foot manufacturing facility which will be the Sunstar Americas' North American Headquarters. This project created nearly 250 construction jobs, and added 30 jobs to the headquarters' 300 jobs that were moved from Sunstar's previous Chicago location. With Sunstar's investment vacant land became a major landmark in Schaumburg which will generate more than $1 million in property tax income for the village, in addition to revenue generated as people from all over the world visit the headquarters.

The award is presented by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Illinois Economic Development Association (IEDA), and is sponsored by ComEd. Read the full press release.

websiteVillage Introduces New Website
If you've visited the village's website recently, you may have noticed the site has a new look. The redesigned website showcases a cleaner, more modern look with vibrant graphics and a wealth of content. The site is fully responsive, meaning it functions seamlessly across any type of device, most notably tablets and smart phones.

The new site also debuts a chat feature allowing users to engage in a live chat conversation with a customer service representative from the village's 311 center. This feature allows easy access to the call center 24 hours a day, seven days a week (which can also be achieved by dialing 311 in the village). Similar to the feature that allows texting of Customer Service Requests (CSRs), the live chat function on the website will further enhance communication and also aid persons with disabilities who many not be able to easily communicate via standard phone.

As the village continues to make some tweaks to the site, take some time to familiarize yourself with this tool that provides a wealth of information about the village's programs and services.
infrastructureWater Meter Letters Beginning This Month
The village's contractor, Water Resources, Inc., anticipates mailing letters next week in the northeast area of the village urging recipients to schedule appointments to upgrade water meter reading equipment as part of a multi-year capital improvement project.

The project, which will ensure uninterrupted meter reading throughout the village, requires access to residential and    commercial properties.

As part of the program, existing water meter transmission      units (MTU) located on properties will require replacement. In some cases, water meters may also need to be replaced. Approximately 950 water meters and 26,500 MTUs will be replaced over the next three years for a total project cost of $4.67 million. The new water metering equipment will be installed at no additional cost to Schaumburg residents.

A map indicating areas for improvement for each year and other project information is posted on the village's website.
