Not Your Usual Call

On April 18, Schaumburg's Animal Control was called for assistance regarding a snake found outside of a business in an industrial park. Upon arrival, Animal Control Officer Debbie Diamond found an 8-10 foot red-tailed boa constrictor. With assistance from Community Service Officer Sandy Golliher, Diamond was able to carefully retrieve the snake and place it safely into a carrier where it was delivered to Chicago's Exotic Animal Hospital for further care. Although docile, the snake was very strong, weighing about 25 to 30 pounds and it is believed to have been dumped at the location. Diamond noted, "This is the largest snake I have ever picked up in my 30-year career."

As a reminder, boa constrictors are prohibited from being kept in the village according to the Municipal Code. The village also encourages pet owners to consider humane alternatives to dumping animals such as relinquishing animals to the proper rescue organizations whenever possible. More information on the village's animal control unit can be found on the website or by dialing 311 in Schaumburg.

budgetFY16/17 Budget Goes to Village Board April 26
Schaumburg's Fiscal Year 2016/17 proposed budget was discussed by the Village Board at the Committee of the Whole meeting held April 19. The budget will be considered for adoption by the Village Board at the Tuesday, April 26, Village Board meeting held at 7 p.m. at the Robert O. Atcher Center, 101 Schaumburg Court. The meeting is open to the public.

The proposed budget demonstrates a fair and balanced financial plan that does not include any new taxes. The budget has projected total revenues and other financing sources at $267 million, which is an increase of 22 percent over last year's amended budget. This increase is primarily due to a one-time infusion due to the sale of $50 million in bonds to finance road and other infrastructure improvements. The General Fund, which is the village's main operating fund, has projected revenues (without transfers) of $101 million and projected expenditures (without transfers) of $89 million. The General Fund reflects a $1.9 million surplus after transfers.
