rentalShort Term Rental Information
Anyone who rents their home, or a portion of their home, for a limited amount of time is required to obtain a Short Term Rental License as a result of changes that were made to Schaumburg's Municipal Code. house hands

The village recently approved an amendment to the Municipal Code regarding the rental license requirements for individuals taking part in the "business of renting," which now includes short term rentals. According to Section 123.01 of the Municipal Code, a short term rental is defined as "a single room, dwelling unit or portion thereof located within the primary structure in a residential zoning district and offered for rent for a period of thirty (30) consecutive days or less to any person other than a member of the owner's immediate family".

Short term rental listings can be found on many websites, but they are most commonly advertised on Airbnb.com, VRBO.com and Couchsurfing.com. Whether or not short term rentals are listed on one of these websites, all rental units must operate in accordance with the Village of Schaumburg's Municipal Code in order to maintain operations. To obtain a Rental License, all short term rental proprietors must pass an interior and exterior property inspection to verify the property is maintained safely and in accordance with the village's health and life safety codes.

For more information on these requirements and to obtain a rental license application, please visit the village's website or call the village at (847) 923-3700.

I-90 Tollway Updates
Expect two short full closures of Roselle Road just north of I-90 between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 25 for the purpose of relocating an overhead communications cable to a new set of poles just north of I-90. Schaumburg Police Department officers will assist the contractor with these two closures. It is expected that no more than five minutes is needed to move these two cables. Please use caution if in the area. Once that work is complete, preparations will begin for the new concrete beams that will be installed during the overnight hours on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

The Meacham Road contractor continues to frame the new bridge's roadway, which will eventually support the new concrete deck that motorists will drive across.

A closure of the Barrington Road/I-90 eastbound entrance ramp is scheduled to occur from Monday, April 4 through Sunday, May 15. The posted detour will take traffic east on Higgins Road to Roselle Road then onto I-90 via the eastbound entrance ramp at Roselle Road.

Commuters are encouraged to plan extra time each morning when traveling during the duration of the detour. Those who live east of Roselle Road might consider using IL 53/I-290 to access eastbound I-90.

Be sure to visit the village's website for further information and other updates on this project.
