Officers Actions Help Save 19-Month- Old Girl in Respiratory Distress

Quick thinking on the part of Schaumburg Police Officers Bryan Poradzisz and Kevin O'Connor helped save the life of a 19-month-old girl who was in respiratory distress on March 10. The officers arrived on scene and quickly performed the Heimlich maneuver, CPR and cleared the girl's airway prior to the arrival of Schaumburg paramedics. The girl has appeared to make a full recovery, no doubt due to the actions of these two officers. This incident highlights the dedication, talent, and focused calm under pressure displayed by the fine men and women in law enforcement each and every day. The Schaumburg Police Department commends Officer Poradzisz and Officer O'Connor for their outstanding work.

fact60th Anniversary Fun Fact
Schaumburg's first post office was located in a house on the south side of Schaumburg Road, east of the Municipal Center grounds. Land for the current post office located further west on Schaumburg Road was donated by the Village of Schaumburg in 1977 in part to ensure the community got its own zip code. Up until that time, Schaumburg was considered part of the Roselle postal area.

donorWork Your Way to Becoming a Multi-Gallon Blood Donor April 6
This past January, Mayor Al Larson honored three multi-gallon blood donors at a Village Board meeting where plaques were presented to Jack, Barb and John. A fourth plaque was given to Janet at a later time. These four donors have donated almost 100 gallons of blood through the years and their dedication and efforts has been applauded.

How does one become a multi-gallon donor? Just one pint at a time! And you can start-or continue-that quest at the next Schaumburg community blood drive that will be held Wednesday, April 6, at The Barn, 231 Civic Dr., Schaumburg. Please mark your calendar and plan to donate. Make an appointment with LifeSource online or by calling (877) 543-3768.
