sixty60th Anniversary Fun Fact
Schaumburg's first school house, built between 1870 and 1872, was originally known as Sarah's Grove School and subsequently Schween's Grove School and Schaumburg Centre School. Originally located on the north side of Schaumburg Road just west of Roselle Road, the school still stands on the grounds of St. Peter Lutheran Church and houses the Schaumburg Township Historical Society.
prepareGet Prepared for Severe Weather
With communities throughout Illinois still recovering from severe storms and flooding, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) is joining with the National Weather Service (NWS) and local emergency management agencies to offer Illinois residents a chance to win a weather alert radio through March 31 in conjunction with Severe Weather Preparedness efforts in Illinois.

The weather alert radio contest is available on the Ready Illinois website and will run through March 31. A total of 100 weather alert radios will be awarded to randomly selected
participants who register after reading information about the radios and successfully completing a five-question quiz. Winners will be announced in April. The radios were purchased by the Illinois Emergency Services Management Association (IESMA) as part of an effort to increase the use of the devices in communities throughout Illinois.
1tornado

It was reported that 14 flood-related fatalities occurred in 2015, the highest annual number since records have been kept, according to the NWS. All of the fatalities were the result of vehicles traveling on flooded roadways. Illinois also experienced 69 tornadoes in 2015, which resulted in two fatalities and 27 injuries.

IEMA and the NWS developed a Severe Weather Preparedness Guide, which provides information about tornadoes, severe storms, lightning and flooding along with recommended actions to take before, during and after each of these weather events.  It is available on the Ready Illinois website.
youthVillage Welcomes Schaumburg High School Students
Students from Schaumburg High School visited with Village of Schaumburg employees March 3 as part of the Youth In Government Program. The students were introduced to aspects of local government and had a chance to break into groups to learn more about the various departments that work together to provide essential services to the community. The day marked the first part of the program. The students will return on April 14 to conduct presentations before the Village Board regarding the teams' ideas for a proposed program, enhancement or service. The Village Board will select one proposal for implementation.
scamRemain Alert for IRS Phone Scams
The IRS and the Schaumburg Police Department reminds consumers to guard against scam phone calls from thieves who are intent on stealing money or identities. Criminals pose as the IRS to trick victims out of their money or personal information. Here are a few things the IRS will NOT do:
  • Call you to demand immediate payment. The IRS will not call you if you owe taxes without first sending you a bill in the mail.
  • Demand you pay taxes and not allow you to appeal the amount you owe.
  • Require that you pay your taxes a certain way, such as a prepaid debit card.
  • Ask for your credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
  • Threaten to bring in police or other agencies to arrest you for not paying.

For additional information on ways to keep yourself safe from phone scams, please visit the village's website.
