First Nations Women Warriors Event Offered at Trickster Feb. 12 
  
The First Nations Women Warriors, a group of professional Native Women Veterans dedicated to helping veterans through guidance and resources, is hosting an event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12 at Trickster Art Gallery, 190 S. Donate Used Shoes to People in Need
  
The Village of Schaumburg is serving as a collection site for donated shoes of all sizes and ages to help  people in our community and across the country who live in poverty. Please drop off gently-used, closed-toed shoes in the collection box located next to the elevator at the west entry of the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Ct. Donated shoes will be sent to Soles4Souls, a not-for-profit global social organization committed to fighting poverty. This collection drive is led by a Boy Scout with the Schaumburg Troop 493 as part of an Eagle Scout project.
    
District 211 Community Engagement Meetings Underway
  
District 211's community engagement meetings are now underway, which are focused on obtaining resident input regarding the future of the district. The meetings, which are being held from now until May, are seeking public input for the new five-year strategic plan that is to be approved by the school board this fall. Topics include the state of the district; academic programming; student involvement and wellness; and finances and facilities. Race & Performance Expo Comes to Renaissance Feb. 20-21
  
The Race & Performance Expo is coming to the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Feb. 20-21. The show is new to the Renaissance and will showcase products, offer educational seminars and provide ample opportunity for industry professionals and enthusiasts to network with racing retailers, race engine builders, car builder, sanctioning organizations, car fabricators and trailer manufacturers. Medieval Times Collecting Food for Area Pantries
  
Medieval Times is encouraging fans to "give a little and save big" in an attempt to refill local food pantry stockpiles that historically start to run low this time of year after holiday surpluses. For any three nonperishable food items dropped off at the Schaumburg Castle through Thursday, Feb. 11, donors will receive 45 percent off adult tickets and 25 percent off tickets for children age 12 and younger. Collected food items will be donated locally to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. For additional information, visit the website.
    
Become a Lifeguard for the Schaumburg Park District
  
The Schaumburg Park District is seeking applicants for several lifeguard positions available this summer at three outdoor pools. Lifeguards must be at least 16 years old and have a valid Red Cross lifeguard certification or complete a training program offered by the park district in March. Join the Citizen Police Academy
  
The public is invited to sign up for the Schaumburg Citizen Police Academy to learn more about how the Schaumburg Police Department operates. The next session begins Wednesday, March 16. Each CPA class will be held Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. for 10 weeks at the police department. Anyone 18 years of age and older who resides or works in Schaumburg is eligible to apply. Register today by visiting the village's website. In 1959 the Campanelli Brothers began construction of the first large residential subdivision in Schaumburg. Over the next 28 years, more than 5,000 single family homes were built in 22 stages as part of this development.
scholarship23rd Community Scholarship Applications Available
Schaumburg Village President Al Larson is pleased to announce the availability of the 23rd Annual Community Scholarship in cooperation with Business and Career Services, Inc. 

As a result of a joint scholarship development campaign in the business community, the village has been provided funding to award a scholarship(s) to qualified resident(s) to pursue educational training, upgrading or retraining. The scholarship can be applied towards tuition, books and any other commensurate educational expenses. A President's Committee will select all winners of the program.

The Village of Schaumburg is currently seeking an Accreditation Coordinator for its Fire & EMS. The part-time position will assist department personnel in complying with the professional standards mandated for accreditation by the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) and the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI).

Qualifications include, but are not limited to: an Associate Degree in Fire Science, Business or a related field (Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science, Business or a related field preferred); a minimum of three years of experience in the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) or the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) accreditation process. taxFirst Installment Property Tax Bills Due March 1
The first installment property tax bills for tax year 2015, which is 55 percent of the total property tax bill for the previous year, will be due March 1, 2016. Taxpayers should note that first installment tax bills will not reflect homeowner, senior citizen or other exemptions, nor will they reflect the impact of successful assessment appeals that were filed for tax year 2015. The first installment is just an estimate based on what was paid last year.

Property owners who do not have mortgage companies paying their taxes can make tax payments in person, by mail, or online at the Cook County Treasurer's website. In-person payments are accepted at the Cook County Treasurer's downtown office at 118 N. Clark Street and at any Chase Bank in the Chicago area. Contact the Township of Schaumburg Assessor's Office at (847) 884-0030, ext. 3023, with any assessment questions or visit their website.

I-90 Tollway Updates
The Meacham bridge contractor plans to install the giant steel beams that will carry the new bridge in February. This project is anticipated to include overnight work and will require Meacham Road to be limited to one lane in each direction while the beams are being set. Expect to see beams that are almost 10' tall and 165' long lifted into place by two giant cranes. The schedule has not been finalized but will be provided in this e-newsletter once it is available. Feb. 6: FAFSA Drop-In
Experts will help family members complete their college student aid forms from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg. No registration is required. For more information, call the library at (847) 985-4000.

 

Feb. 11: Dist. 54 Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration for District 54 for the 2016-17 school year will be held Thursday, Feb. 11. Registration will take place at several times throughout the day. For times and registration information, visit their website.

 

Feb. 11: Senior Bingo Party
A Bingo Party is being held for seniors 55 and older from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 at the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg. The event is being hosted by the village's Committee on Aging. Interested participants are asked to RSVP to Lisa Perrone by calling (847) 490-7026.

 

Feb. 11: Manufacturer's Summit
A Manufacturer's Summit will be held Thursday, Feb. 11 to offer discussion on being proactive and creative with training, recruitment and marketing for the manufacturing industry. Presentations will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with networking afterward. The event will be held at Harper College, 1200 W. Algonquin Rd., Palatine. Feb. 13: Coffee with the Council
The Village of Schaumburg invites the public to attend Coffee with the Council, a monthly informational meeting with village trustees. The next meeting will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13 at the Public Safety Building, 1000 W. Schaumburg Rd. The meeting is open to the public.
