Office Closures
  
The Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center and all Schaumburg administrative offices will remain closed Friday, Dec. 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday. Residents who need assistance can call the village's Customer Service Representatives by dialing 311 with any questions or concerns. Residents can also visit the village's website for more information about programs and services. Offices will reopen Monday, Dec. 28.
 
Schaumburg Township offices are also closed Dec. 25 and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 28.
    
Refuse & Recycling Collection Reminder
  
The village's refuse and recycling collection service for Friday, Dec. 25 will be delayed until Saturday, Dec. 26 due to the Christmas holiday. For more information, visit the village's website.
    
Handle Food Safely
  
Foodborne illness can strike anyone. However, some people are at a higher risk for developing foodborne illness. These include pregnant women, young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems. If you - or someone you care for - are in one of these at-risk groups, it's important to pay extra attention to handling food safely. Follow these food safety handling tips.

Police Offers Video Sharing Program
  
The Schaumburg Police Department has introduced a new video sharing partnership program that will allow property owners the ability to share video with the police to aid in investigations. The program is open to any property owner in Schaumburg's municipal boundaries that has private video surveillance that can record public areas such as streets, sidewalks, parking lots, etc. The program is voluntary and requires no cost from property owners. Recycle Holiday Lights
  
Residents with old holiday lights can drop them off anytime at the Engineering & Public Works building located at 714 S. Plum Grove Rd. or at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Ct. A receptacle is located in the lobby that will accept Christmas light strands (no C3-C6 bulbs will be accepted), extension cords and other wires including copper, insulated, house and phone wires. This recycling opportunity is available year-round at the Public Works Department and is being offered through the end of January at the municipal center. For more information about recycling opportunities, visit the village's website.
    
Blood Drive at Woodfield Mall
  
Heartland Blood Centers is hosting a holiday blood drive event called "12 Days of Giving" from Friday, Dec. 18 through Thursday, Dec. 31 at Woodfield Mall. The organization will be set up by the mall entrance near the Cheesecake Factory and welcomes blood donors from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on most days. Donors will receive special thank-yous like "fast passes" to avoid lines to see Santa as well as gift cards, free gift wrapping and more. Walk-ins are welcome and fasting is not required. giftVillage Employees Help Those in Need with Gift Giving Event
In the village's annual gift-giving event, nine departments sponsored seven local families in need for the holidays, which benefited seven adults and 16 children/youth this holiday season. Employees contributed donations and went shopping for various items on the families' wish lists that included everything from household items to clothing and toys for children. All gifts were wrapped before being dropped off at the Family Counseling Office earlier this week. Family members - who remained anonymous - picked up their gifts before the holiday so they could celebrate with their loved ones.
ComedComEd Hosting Open Houses for Transmission Line Project 
ComEd is hosting open houses to inform the public regarding the West Central Reliability Project, a new 138kV electric transmission line proposed for construction in Cook and DuPage counties. The project will be introduced and details about the proposed route will be discussed at the open houses. The events are informal and will provide opportunities for one-on-one conversations. The public may arrive anytime between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on the following dates and locations:

tax2015 Property Assessment Appeals
Property owners have until Friday, Jan. 8 to appeal their property assessments. Township of Schaumburg residents who believe their property has been over assessed can appeal during the open appeal period through the Cook County Board of Review's Office.

The Schaumburg Township Assessor will be hosting a seminar free to the public that will help educate people how to file a successful tax appeal. The seminar will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29 at the Schaumburg Township office, 1 Illinois Blvd., Hoffman Estates. Taxpayers are asked to bring a copy of their most recent tax bill to the seminar. There is no fee to appeal at the Board of Review. For more information, call the township at (847) 884-0030.
 
Taxpayers may also file an appeal online at the Board of Review.
threeGet Tickets for Simply Three
Tickets are available for the performance that drew a standing ovation last year at the Prairie Center, Simply Three. This astonishing violin/cello/bass trio is back again in January with its captivating performance of instrumental arrangements of popular songs by artists like Adele, Coldplay, Puccini and Pharrell. The event will take place 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9 at the Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Ct. Tickets are $25 for adults and $23 for seniors/students. Kinfork Restaurant hosted a ribbon cutting Dec. 15 for the opening of its first dining concept, which is located at 5 Woodfield Mall, near the JCPenny entrance. Drawing inspiration from the word "kinfolk," Kinfork Restaurant gets its namesake from a take on the term "kin," meaning family, since they believe that food is best enjoyed in the community with others. Kinfork boasts a classic, American dining experience with wood accents, warm earth tones and hints of Americana nostalgia throughout the restaurant. The menu offers an array of small and large dishes, drawing influences from all corners of the United States, while also providing beer and wine options from breweries and wineries within the U.S.  For more information, please visit Kinfork's website.
dentistDecember Business of the Month: Acierno Dental
Acierno Dental is a provider of general, cosmetic and family dentistry located at 129 S. Roselle Road that provides a wide variety of dental services including cleanings, general maintenance, root canals, oral cancer screenings, restorations, whitening and Invisalign through its family-oriented practice.
 
Dr. Acierno, the founder of Acierno Dental, started his practice in Schaumburg in 2010 and has been highly involved in the community. Dr. Acierno has been a regular corporate sponsor of the Schaumburg Boomers while concurrently serving as the team's official dentist. He and his staff have also been hosting the office's "A Reason to Smile" program on an ongoing basis where the office provides basic dental care services, free of charge, to adults with developmental disabilities from the Clearbrook Center. Dr. Acierno's office has also participated in other altruistic programs including its annual Kids' Book Drive and Halloween Candy Buy Back where candy is donated to soldiers overseas.

I-90 Tollway Updates
Small crews will continue to work on a few operations on the Meacham and Roselle Road bridge projects from now until after the new year. No major operations are expected.

The mainline I-90 contractors will continue to pave new lanes and shoulders through the holidays. That work will take place overnight, so please use extra caution as crews install the new lane lines and signs to open those new lanes. Be sure to visit the village's website for further information and other updates on this project.

Open to children ages 1 through 6, the Schaumburg Park District invites families to participate in the Itsy Bitsy New Year's Eve Countdown. The event features unstructured play activities and will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Dec. 31 at The Sport Center, 1141 W. Irving Park Rd., Schaumburg.
