codeVillage Wins Code Enforcement Agency of the Year Award
The Village of Schaumburg is pleased to announce it has been awarded the Illinois Association of Code Enforcement's (IACE) Agency of the Year Award for 2015 in recognition of the village's single-family home rental inspection program that was recently implemented.

The new program ensures rental properties are being maintained safely and strives to maintain a high quality housing stock and a clean and attractive community. As part of the program, all rented single family homes will be inspected once every three years. Previously, rental homes were inspected on a complaint basis only. It is estimated Schaumburg has approximately 300 single family homes being used as rental properties.

One-third of the existing licensed locations will be inspected each year and any new locations will be inspected when a rental license application is submitted.

IACE will be presenting the award to Schaumburg at its annual business meeting/quarterly training session that will be held Wednesday, Dec. 9 in Elgin.
sunstarComEd Awards Sunstar for Energy Efficient Building Modifications
ComEd presented Sunstar Americas Inc., 301 E. Central Rd. in Schaumburg, with a financial incentive check totaling $360,977, representing the cost savings that resulted from several energy efficient modifications that were incorporated into the construction of the new building. Energy efficiency measures evaluated for this project include upgrades to the interior and exterior lighting systems, improvements to the building envelope and various HVAC measures. This work has resulted in a decrease of 3,609,766 kWh used per year, or enough to power 342 homes with electricity for a year.
billLocal Government Funding Bill Makes Progress

A bill intended to release state funding owed to local governments is expected to go before the Senate Monday, Dec. 7. The bill, SB2309, passed the House in November and authorizes the payment of almost $2 billion in non-general fund revenues to be distributed to local cities and towns, including the Village of Schaumburg. The state has been operating without a Fiscal Year 2016 state budget since July 1, 2015, and is currently withholding funds because it does not have authorization to appropriate them.

If the bill is passed and signed by the Governor, it would allow state-collected revenues such as the local share of the Use Tax, Motor Fuel Tax (MFT), gaming, Wireless 9-1-1 Surcharge and federal transportation funding to be distributed to local governments. Cities and villages rely on these revenues to provide essential services to the public, including, but not limited to, 9-1-1 emergency response, road maintenance and construction, snow removal, and road salt purchases.

Residents are encouraged to contact their state legislators and the Governor and urge them to support the immediate release of all state-collected revenues that are owed to local governments. Contact information can be found by clicking on the following links:

stickerCheck Vehicle License Plate Stickers - Don't Let Them Expire
The Schaumburg Police Department would like to remind motorists to check their license plate stickers to determine when they need to renew them to avoid driving on expired plates.

This fall, the Illinois Secretary of State's Office announced it will no longer be mailing paper reminders for drivers to renew their license plate stickers as a way to reduce costs. Vehicle owners are encouraged to be mindful of their vehicle registration status and can sign up online to receive reminder notices electronically by email. Visit the Secretary of State's website for more information and to sign up for the electronic reminder.
treeCelebrate Holidays Safely
The holidays are a joyous time of year. Give your family the best gift this year; keep them safe from fire by following these safety tips provided by the Schaumburg Fire Department:
  • When decorating, use only "nonflammable" or "flame- retardant" decorations and keep all decorations and trees away from heat sources.
  • Never leave lit candles unattended and keep them out of reach of children and pets.
  • Check light strings for damaged cords and replace if necessary.
  • Be careful not to overload outlets! Connect no more than three strands of lights together.
  • If purchasing a fresh tree, look for one with fresh, green needles that don't fall off to the touch.
  • Keep a fresh tree watered at all times. Dry trees are a significant fire hazard!
  • Do not block exits with trees or decorations.
  • Avoid tripping hazards by keeping all cords against the walls.
  • Test all smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms and replace batteries if needed.
  • Never leave cooking unattended.
  • Keep all combustibles away from the stove.
  • Keep children and pets out of the kitchen when cooking.
  • After Christmas, dispose of the tree when it begins dropping needles.
