halloweenCelebrate Halloween Safely
This year Halloween occurs on Saturday, Oct. 31. The Village of Schaumburg has no ordinance determining Halloween hours for children; however, the Schaumburg Police Department asks residents to limit trick-or-treating between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31 during daylight hours. Households welcoming children should leave on porch lights or other exterior lighting. Never ask children to step inside to receive treats and call 911 immediately if it is suspected a child is lost or in need of help. The police department recommends only distributing wrapped candy to children.

For additional Halloween safety tips from our police and fire departments, visit the village's webpage. The Village of Schaumburg wishes to ensure the safety and tradition of a Happy Halloween. Motorists are reminded to watch carefully for costumed children who might not always be alert enough to watch out for cars.

It is administered by one of the registered nurses at the Village of Schaumburg and the results are confidential. To schedule an appointment, call the Schaumburg Public Health & Nursing Division at (847) 923-3766.
leavesProper Leaf Disposal
The Village of Schaumburg would like to remind residents not to rake leaves or put grass clippings in the street. Debris left in the street may cause storm water to back up if the leaves block and clog sewers and inlets. For this reason, leaves cannot be blown or disposed of into village streets or raked into the parkways. This is a violation of the Village Code of Ordinances. A warning notice will be issued to residents who do not properly prepare their landscape waste for pick-up.

Leaves are considered landscape waste. Once raked, leaves must be placed into 30-gallon paper bags (no plastic) designed for yard waste and placed at the curb for removal. Each bag should not exceed 50 pounds. Landscape waste may be placed at the curb no earlier than 4 p.m. the day preceding residents' scheduled pick-up day through December 15, 2015. For more information visit the village's website or contact the Engineering and Public Works Department by calling (847) 895-7100.

Martingale Road Patching
Concrete pavement patching is underway on Martingale Road at various locations from Higgins Road to the south end of the village's limits. Improvements will include lane closures, and flaggers will be present. The project is expected to be complete by mid-November pending weather.

Salem Drive Improvement Project:
The contractor has completed placing the final pavement markings and street signs for the project. The detour will be removed mid-day on Friday, Oct. 23 and the roadway will open to two-way traffic. Please be aware that traffic will now be going in both directions and remain cautious while in the area. Minor punch list work will be ongoing to complete the project. For project updates, visit the webpage.

I-390 Tollway Updates
The northbound Gary Avenue Ramp with posted detour has been extended to Oct. 24.

I-90 Tollway Updates
Both of the bridge contractors are now focused on excavating and building the abutments and walls that will support the ends of their structures. That work will continue for several weeks before new concrete work occurs. The ramp from Barrington Road to eastbound I-90 is expected to open Friday, Oct. 30.

Those working on the project have heard some concerns about the lane jogs between I-90 and Central Road. There is a chance the contractor will complete pavement north of Central yet this year. That pavement would provide enough room to move traffic into new lanes and remove those curves. The weather is being monitored closely and solutions are being considered to enhance the driving experience for winter. Please continue to use caution throughout the entire work zone and obey work zone speed limits. Be sure to
visit the village's website for further information and other updates on this project.
