Bus Route Temporary Stops at Northwest Transportation Center
 
All Pace bus routes serving the Pace Northwest Transportation Center will have a temporary stop relocation for Oct. 16-18. Due to pavement resurfacing on Martingale Road at the Pace Northwest Transportation Center, passengers will be dropped off and picked up along Kimberly Drive. The resurfacing will begin on Friday, Oct. 16. Completion is expected on Sunday, Oct. 18. The parking lot will not be affected.
  
Schaumburg Fire Department Draws Highest Collection for Fill the Boot
 
The Schaumburg Fire Department achieved its highest collection total to date of $9,674.01 during its three days of participating in the Fill the Boot campaign to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The department thanks everyone who contributed to the drive that was held this fall.
     
New McDonald's Hiring
  
Schaumburg's newest McDonald's at 955 E. Golf Rd. is now accepting applications for full and part-time employment. Open interviews are being conducted every Wednesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the GFS parking lot near the store at 955 E. Golf Rd. Windy City Ski and Snowboard Show at Renaissance Oct. 23-25
 
Windy City Ski and Snowboard Show™ is Chicagoland's newest and largest Consumer Ski and Snowboard Show that will take place Oct. 23-25 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel. Open to the public, the event includes retailers, resorts, clubs and manufacturer reps in the industry plus other prizes and giveaways. For more information, visit the website.
         
Woodfield Mall Offers Mall-O-Ween Event Oct. 31
  
Children are invited to show off their most creative, spookiest and spectacular Halloween costumes during Woodfield Mall's annual Simon Kidgits Club "Mall-O-Ween" event from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. Participants in this free event will enjoy cauldrons full of candy, contests, photo opportunities, interactive games and mall-wide trick-or-treating at participating stores. The event will be centered in the JCPenney court of the Schaumburg shopping center.
         
 
October Artist of the Month: Colored Pencil Society of America
  
Artist of the Month showcases the artists whose work is currently on display in the gallery of the Prairie Center for the Arts. Watch the video.
    
Evening Services Offered at Higgins Educational Center
  
POC, Partners for our Communities, coordinates services at the Higgins Education Center (next to Hoffman Estates High School) through collaboration with vital community partners. POC's staff is available Monday through Thursday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the center to provide multilingual direct services, referrals, programs and other assistance to community members who seek to improve their lives. Few Weeks Left for Parking Ticket Amnesty Program
  
A few weeks remain to take advantage of Schaumburg's Parking Ticket Amnesty Program. The program offers those with delinquent parking and municipal ticket fines to settle their accounts at a reduced payment. In most cases, this will result in a 50 percent reduction in the payment amount due. For more information about this opportunity, or to see if you have outstanding parking or municipal citations, visit the village's website. The program ends Saturday, Oct. 31.

martingaleConcrete Improvements to Begin on Martingale Road
Weather permitting, concrete pavement patching is expected to begin Monday, Oct. 19 on Martingale Road at various locations from Higgins Road to the south end of the village's limits. Improvements will require lane closures, and flaggers will be present so the public is advised to slow down and remain alert in the construction zone. The project is anticipated to take three weeks to complete.
fundingSchaumburg Receives Funding for Infrastructure Improvements
The Village of Schaumburg is pleased to announce it has received approximately $6.1 million in federal funds that will go toward a variety of upcoming infrastructure projects throughout the village. Projects awarded funding include the construction of a Golf Road Bike Path, which will provide an important connection under IL -53 to the Ned Brown (Busse Woods) Forest Preserve; intersection improvements at Woodfield Road at IL-53; Meacham Road and Algonquin Road (IL 62) intersection improvements; and the purchase and installation of new bicycle racks and bicycle lockers at the Schaumburg Metra Station.
 
Allocated by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), these funds are made available through the federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Improvement Program and the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP). These grants allow the village to maximize local dollars and significantly increase the number of transportation projects that are funded.      
businessesNew Businesses Celebrate Openings in Schaumburg
Anytime Fitness hosted a ribbon cutting on Oct. 6 for the opening of the newest of its 2,200 locations. Anytime Fitness, which opened at 1851 W. Irving Park Rd., is a health club franchise that has more than 80 clubs in Illinois. Anytime Fitness gets its namesake from providing its patrons with gym access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The franchise has become one of the largest growing in the industry and boasts more than 2 million members worldwide. Of all its accolades, Anytime Fitness has most recently been designated as the #1 Top Global Franchise by Entrepreneur Magazine for its demonstration of financial strength, high growth rate and fiscal stability.

Bright Horizons, a preschool and child care facility, recently held a ribbon cutting to open its new location at 1920 N. Thoreau Dr. Bright Horizons provides a number of programs and services to its patrons, including full and part-time early education, preschool education, drop-in care and inclement weather care. Bright Horizons is the largest provider of employer-sponsored child care in the U.S. and has more than 25 centers in Illinois. The Schaumburg center, in particular, caters to local businesses as well as families for its child care services.
shredRecycle Paper and Latex Paint at Oct. 24 Recycling Event
The Village of Schaumburg is hosting a paper shred and latex paint recycling event on Saturday, Oct. 24. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in the west parking lot of Boomers Stadium, 1999 S. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg. Document shredding will be available for residents only while anyone from the public can recycle latex paint for a small fee. tricksterNew Exhibit at Trickster Gallery
The public is invited to attend Warriors in Our Midst, a photography exhibit that celebrates and honors all American servicemen and women and veterans. The opening reception will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at Trickster Art Gallery located at 190 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg. The exhibit will be available from Oct. 24 through Dec. 6.
bollywoodDiscover Spirit of India at Prairie Center for the Arts
The Bollywood Masala Orchestra and Dancers of India present "Spirit of India," a new way of presenting live Indian music and dance. A company of 17 musicians, singers and dancers share a rich cultural tradition in this exciting program featuring contemporary Bollywood hits and traditional works. The performance will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25 at the Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Ct. Tickets are $42 ($40 for students/seniors). Salem Drive Improvement Project:
The contractor is scheduled to complete the topsoil and sod placement by Friday, Oct. 16 and will place the final asphalt on Saturday, Oct. 17.  Please be aware that fresh oil will be placed on Friday, Oct. 16 during the mid-morning hours so please drive with caution. Weather permitting the contractor has also scheduled the final striping and signage installation for the week of Oct. 19 with the goal of opening the roadway to two-way traffic by Friday, Oct. 23. As a reminder, please be cautious and careful when traveling through the work site. For project updates, visit the webpage. This project is expected to be complete by November.
  
Martingale Road Improvement Project:
The contractor will be placing the final asphalt surface on Friday, Oct. 16. The bikepath on the east side of Martingale Road has been completed, and all concrete sidewalk, driveway and curb repairs have also been completed. The contractor is currently completing topsoil and sod restoration and plans to place the final pavement markings the week of Oct. 19. The project is anticipated to be complete by early November 2015. For project updates, visit the webpage.

I-390 Tollway Updates
The eastbound I-390 ramp to Springinsguth Road detour that is in place will be extended through Oct. 18. for work that is continuing in the area. The northbound Gary Avenue Ramp with posted detour has been extended to Oct. 24. The westbound I-390 ramp to southbound Gary Avenue is scheduled to reopen Oct. 18.
  
I-90 Tollway Updates
The Roselle Road bridge contractor plans to start installing the piling to support the bridge structures this week. A taller crane will be hammering "H"-shaped steel beams into the ground for two to three days on each end of the bridge. Once that work is completed, the contractor can build the actual concrete walls and abutments to hold the bridge's beams. The Meacham Road bridge contractor completed their support work and is starting to build the concrete abutments. They are focused on excavating a path for the future roadway that will carry traffic past the ramps to and from Meacham Road. Crews are preparing the new pavement on both sides of the bridge. The Utility contractor completed their connection work on the large water pipes that serve the village and neighboring communities. They are finishing some fence and landscaping work and are removing and abandoning some of the old pipe to make room for future storm sewer structures.
