JuneBOMJune Business of the Month: Schaumburg Boomers

The Schaumburg Boomers Baseball Club is the featured Business of the Month. The Boomers is a professional baseball team that plays in the Frontier League, an independent association that operates separately from Major League Baseball. The Schaumburg Boomers home ballpark is located at 1999 S Springinsguth Road after originally being built in 1999 through a partnership between the Village of Schaumburg and the Schaumburg Park District. In conjunction with becoming the 8th fastest-growing professional baseball franchise in the United States, the Boomers have also won back-to-back league championships in the 2013 and 2014 seasons. The Boomers are currently in their fourth season after changing ownership and employ 12 full-time and 200 seasonal staff members.

Since the club started under the Boomers name in 2012, the organization has been extensively involved in the community. The team has generously provided a variety of single-game and season tickets to non-profit and civic organizations as well as partnered with the Schaumburg Athletic Association and Park District to host public events and fundraisers. In addition, Boomers players are actively engaged with the community by having team workouts at the Campanelli YMCA. Many of the players are also hosted by Schaumburg residents for the duration of the season, which not only helps the players save money, but builds a close sense of community around the team.

The 2015 season is underway. To purchase tickets, visit their website or call the box office at (847) 461-3695.

parkingSafe Parking Reminders

The Village of Schaumburg would like to take this opportunity to remind you to obey Illinois laws designed to keep the public safe, especially those laws that provide protection near parks and other outdoor spaces where children may be frequenting.

Illinois state law indicates that stopping, standing or parking is prohibited in specified places. Local stopping, standing and parking regulations may be posted on signs; however, there are statewide regulations that are not always indicated by signs.

Standing or parking a vehicle, whether occupied or not, is prohibited:

  • In front of a public or private driveway
  • Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant
  • Within 20 feet of a fire station driveway or crosswalk at an intersection
  • Within 30 feet of a STOP sign, YIELD sign or traffic control signal

The last two points are especially critical for those who might be parallel parking near parks for children's activities and sports functions. Be cautious when parking near these designated areas and be alert for children who may not always cross at the crosswalk.

For more information on these and other state laws, visit the Rules of the Road.

Traffic traveling on the eastbound frontage road and eastbound Irving Park Road will have continued access to the ramp. Westbound Irving Park Road traffic, however, will not be able access the ramp. Westbound Irving Park Road traffic can access eastbound I-390 by following the detour to Rodenburg Road and using the eastbound frontage road to access I-390 near Wright Boulevard. For additional information, visit the tollway's website.

I-90 Tollway Updates

Both the Meacham and Roselle Bridge projects continue to move forward. One last day of concrete will take place at the northern bridge on Meacham next week. Details will be provided once available.
