holidaycheerVillage Employees Spread Holiday Cheer to Families in Need

In the village's annual gift-giving event, a total of eight adults and 15 children benefited from the generosity and holiday spirit displayed by Village of Schaumburg employees.

This year, seven different departments sponsored a number of families in need this holiday season. The departments worked together to shop for the items that were requested by family members on their wish lists. Items requested included everything from clothing and blankets to cribs and toys and books for children.

Families were matched with departments based on size and needs. All gifts were purchased and wrapped by employees before being dropped off at the Family Counseling Office earlier this week. Family members - who remained anonymous - picked up their gifts before the holiday so they could celebrate with their loved ones.

treedisposalChristmas Tree Disposal

A special collection period for Christmas trees and greenery will be the held the first two weeks in January. Place your Christmas tree out on your normal Refuse and Recycling Collection day.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Residents who wish to have their Christmas trees recycled (chipped up and used for mulch) may leave them in the marked enclosure located at the south entrance of Engineering & Public Works, 714 S. Plum Grove Road. Please make sure all decorations have been removed prior to disposal.

Holiday Lights Recycling

Old holiday lights can be dropped off anytime from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Engineering & Public Works building located at 714 S. Plum Grove Road. A receptacle is located in the lobby that will accept Christmas light strands (no C3-C6 bulbs will be accepted), extension cords and other wires including copper, insulated, house and phone wires. This recycling opportunity is available year-round and is provided by the Village of Schaumburg and Elgin Recycling. For more information, visit the village's website.

capitalplan5-Year Capital Improvement Plan

Every year, the Village of Schaumburg establishes a 5-year Capital Improvement Plan, or CIP. The plan prioritizes investments that will be made to roadways, water and sewer utilities, street lights, sidewalks, parking lots, traffic signals and buildings. Projects are evaluated based on feasibility, priority and available funding. The 5-year plan represents a significant undertaking and serves as a catalyst for maintaining a high quality of life, supporting the local economy and fostering economic growth.

The village's Capital Improvement Plan is expected to be considered at the Tuesday, January 13 board meeting. To access a copy of the draft plan and to view specifics of how funding will be allocated, visit the village's website.

csrtextIntroducing Customer Service Requests by Text
The Village of Schaumburg now allows the public to text information from a mobile device to initiate a Customer Service Request (CSR) -- giving the public another way to conveniently connect with the village.

Those who would like to text a CSR to the village can do so by texting (847) 306-9862. Once information is texted to the village, participants will receive a confirmation text and a tracking number. Users are not required to provide their name; however, additional information such as location, nature of the problem and other information may be required for the village to take the appropriate next steps. Village staff may also call the user if necessary to complete its action and follow-up.

The CSR system should NOT be used to report an emergency. All emergencies should be reported by dialing 911.

A Customer Service Request is initiated when something needs to be communicated to village staff. Examples include requesting village services such as storm damaged parkway tree branch removal, dead wild animal removal, tree trimming and inquiries about village business practices. The request can also be submitted if residents simply want to forward opinions and questions on any village activities. For more information on the various ways to initiate a CSR, visit the village's website.

The trolley reverts back to its regular weekend service schedule after New Year's Day. Visit the village's website, call the Trolley Hotline at (847) 923-3880, or contact the village at (847) 923-3861 for updated service information.

ConstructionConstruction Updates
For a link to all village projects, please visit the website.

Tollway Update:

Work will slow over the holidays for all of the active contracts so expect fewer construction-related delays. Work is expected to continue on the Meacham Road bridge and with various utilities in the area so the public should continue to slow down through work zones to maintain a safe working area. As winter weather approaches, please use extra caution across both the Roselle and Meacham bridges. The uneven pavement and narrow lanes may make it difficult for plows to clear snow and ice. Please visit the village's website for further information about work on both of these projects.
