About the Village of Schaumburg

Schaumburg is the largest center of economic development in the State of Illinois, outside the City of Chicago, but it is also very much a community of neighbors and neighborhoods. Quality of life is important to us and we are constantly working to enhance it. Visit the website.

This weekly e-newsletter provides timely information on general news and events from the Village of Schaumburg.

stageNew Stage for Concert Series

The 2014 Summer Breeze Concert Series will kick off on July 5 on a newly renovated outdoor stage. Located just north of the Prairie Center, the stage will be integrated into the natural surroundings and constructed of materials similar to the wood, stone and brick found elsewhere on the grounds. The new design will give performers a bit more space while a slight increase to the elevation and enhanced sightlines will provide audience members a better view of the performance. The space will be covered by a graceful, open pergola structure.

aggregationMunicipal Aggregation Program Update
The village's current Municipal Aggregation Program runs through June 2014. After researching competitive electricity pricing options to renew its program, the village is pleased to announce that we have again selected FirstEnergy Solutions as the supplier of choice. The competitive rate that FirstEnergy is able to provide to the residents and small businesses in the village is fixed at 6.61 cents per kWh. FirstEnergy is the current aggregation supplier and this new rate will start with June 2014 (meter reads) and continue through June 2017.

For more information please contact Rachel Lange at 847.923.4702 or visit the web page.

energyBe Cautious of Solicitations by Energy and Natural Gas Suppliers

Residents may want to be wary of claims made by solicitors trying to convince you to switch energy or natural gas suppliers. While some of these solicitors may be licensed by the village, that only means they are allowed to solicit in Schaumburg. Please note these solicitors do NOT represent the village. If you feel uncomfortable, simply say no, close your door, or call 911.

The village's authorized electricity supplier through aggregation is First Energy Solutions. At this time, natural gas aggregation is not available in Schaumburg.

culvertCambridge/Syracuse
Culvert Replacement

The Cambridge Drive and Syracuse Lane Culvert Replacement Project has begun. There are three culverts that will be reconstructed as part of this project. One located on Syracuse Lane and two on Cambridge. In order to reconstruct these culverts, the streets will be closed at each of these locations for the duration of the project.

Detour signs and project information signs have been placed to notify the public of the closures.

The contractor will begin their work at the Cambridge Drive culvert (north). Once completed, the contractor will proceed to Syracuse Lane and the Cambridge Drive culvert (south). It is anticipated that all work will be completed by late summer 2014. Please visit the village website and select 'ALL' from the Project drop-down menu to access all projects to locate updated information. You may also feel free to email the project group with any questions.

barringtonSchaumburg & Barrington Intersection

The project is now staged to provide access to the medians. Next steps include the removal of the median pavement and the installation of concrete curb and gutter at the edges of the future turn bays. There are also some drainage structures in the medians. You will notice crews installing new storm water inlets and pipe before grading the medians and framing the new concrete.

The electrical subcontractor has completed the concrete work at the two intersections and installed all of the new mast arm traffic signal poles. They will begin pulling cables and wires this month and will continue the installation of the new roadway lighting system.

Remember, there are new turning restrictions on Barrington, south of Schaumburg, and on Schaumburg, east of Barrington. After the saw cutters work is complete, pavement will be removed which will result in a 12" to 14" drop off.
