Walnut Lane
Reconstruction Project
The Walnut Lane Project is a $2.5 million dollar project to reconstruct Walnut Lane from Golf Road to Bode Road. This project is being implemented to improve the safety of the roadway, as well as address the deteriorating pavement and enhance the adjacent landscaping.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early April 2013 and be substantially complete by November 2013, weather permitting. Visit the website to view information that will be updated regularly.

Schaumburg Road Project
The Schaumburg Road project is a Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (CCDTH) project to patch and diamond grind Schaumburg Road from Roselle Road to Barrington Road.
Construction begins in the spring of 2013 and will be substantially complete by the fall of 2013. The project will be split up into three sections.The section near the high school will be done over the school's summer break.

Overnight Parking
Parking on village streets is prohibited between the hours of 2:30am and 6am - violators will be ticketed. If you need to park your vehicle overnight, you must contact the Police Department for permission. Overnight parking is limited to five requests within a 30 day period and will not be granted when there is two inches or more of snow fall. Residents may request overnight parking by calling 3-1-1 within Schaumburg or call the Police non-emergency number at 847.882.3586.

"My husband is here - for me, our children, and grandchildren." Bonnie cannot thank those 12 donors, but she can pay it forward for others who will, one day, need a life-saving blood transfusion to be there for their loved ones.

 Municipal Aggregation Implementation Update  Following the passage of the municipal electric aggregation program's plan of operations and governance, the village will be seeking proposals from ICC licensed alternative retail electric suppliers to provide electricity to residents and small businesses throughout Schaumburg. The process of selecting and approving an alternative retail electric supplier should be complete by the beginning of May. After a supplier is chosen and a contract is negotiated, eligible residents and small business owners will receive opt-out letters from the new supplier informing them of the new electric supply rate. Please note the Village of Schaumburg has NOT chosen an alternative retail electric supplier and is NOT currently in negotiations with an electric supplier. The village's new electric supplier will not visit residents in person at their homes or ask for their electric bill. Municipal Aggregation Implementation Process: - Referendum passed on November 6
- Review of Consultant's proposals
- Plan of Operations and Governance created & Ordinance (approved at Village Board meeting)
- Two Public Hearings to discuss the Village's Plan of Operations and Governance

The village's aggregation program will not affect how customers receive electricity, report outage, or pay bills. Under the aggregation program ComEd will no longer be generating electricity, but they will still distribute the electricity and continue to be responsible for billing issues and power outages. Nominations Sought for Volunteer of the Year
Please nominate the person and/or an organization that you think deserves the award by completing a Volunteer of the Year nomination form. Nominations will be accepted until April 1.
 This year's keynote speaker will be Erin Merryn who is the author of Stolen Innocence and Living for Today both memoirs about incest and rape. Erin earned her Master's degree in social work from Aurora University in May 2009. Erin began a crusade her senior year of high school in 2004 to end the silence and shame around sexual abuse. She puts a bright light and outspoken voice on the silent epidemic traveling the country giving inspirational and motivational speeches to thousands.

Harvesting Healthy Rewards

 The Schaumburg Community Garden Club recently made a donation in support of the village's award winning Intergenerational Produce Garden. The funds will be used toward the purchase of plants and seeds for the 2013 planting season. In announcing the donation, Club spokesperson, Denise Suender, stated, "The garden meets all our goals of a Schaumburg project, teaching children and providing food for our community!"
The garden, entering its third growing season, is located adjacent to the village's senior and teen centers at the Barn and SAA offices on Civic Drive. It was constructed with raised beds and wide pathways to accommodate the varying abilities of participants. Harvested produce is used in preparing meals and snacks for the teens and seniors, as well as being donated to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry.
Last year, the garden received a City Livability Award from the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

Economic Development on Meacham Road

Have you been wondering what happened to the building that was at 900 N. Meacham Road? The Audit Bureau of Circulations relocated their operations at 900 N. Meacham several years ago and the property had remained vacant as the office vacancy rate continues to be at 18%. Meacham Gatherings was approved for a redevelopment of the old Audit Bureau of Circulations facility and its private developer was granted special use approval for a sit-down restaurant, On the Border, and a second building to include Potbelly, Roti, Protein Bar, and Beer Market.
Down the block, the owner of the Bally's property decided to demolish the building to help facilitate the sale of this property. The village has been in discussions with a developer who would like to build sit-down restaurants there, though nothing has been formally submitted for review.
There will be no public funds used for these projects. The village continues to work with businesses and developers to bring additional amenities to the community to support its residents, businesses, and visitors.

Microenterprise Loan Program
 A loan program is now available for small business owners for startup or expansion costs. Loans are offered at a maximum of $10,000, and are forgivable over a three-year term. Loans can be used for advertising costs, lease/acquisition of tenant space/property, and acquisition of software, inventory, and equipment. One full-time job must be created as a result of the loan.

Residential Rehabilitation Loan Program
 Assistance is available for eligible homeowners who are in need of home improvements. Eligible homeowners must meet certain asset and income requirements to qualify. Eligible home reapirs include weatherization improvement, replacement of items in disrepair, and the correction of code violations. Loans are provided at a 0% interest rate with a maximum loan amount of $25,000 for single-family detached homes and $15,000 for multi-family units. The village has partnered with North West Housing Partnership to administer this program. Please visit the website for more information.
