Women's Big Ten Basketball Tournament
An estimated 20,000 people will attend the Women's Big Ten Basketball Tournament at the Sears Centre Arena and will frequent local Schaumburg businesses and restaurants from March 7 - 10. It's a celebration of one of the country's great athletic conferences and features the free "Skills & Thrills Fan Camp," a basketball inspired theme park, and an All-American autograph signing.
A special Big Ten Tournament discount for residents and friends of the village is being offered. Use special code "VOHE" to purchase a single session ticket for $10 (instead of $15) on www.ChicagoMarchIsOn.com

ComEd has provided new technology enhancements to better communicate with customers affected during power outages.
To report an outage, ComEd customers can text OUT to 26633 (COMED) to report an outage and receive updates on their outage status. Customers can also download the new App for Smart phones; or follow them on Twitter @ComEd or Facebook at Facebook.com/ComEd to stay up to date on the latest ComEd info.
If you encounter a downed power line, immediately call ComEd at 1-800-EDISON1 (1.800.334.7661) or access the website and report the location. |

 Municipal Aggregation Implementation Process Status 
On February 12, the Village Board approved the award of a contract for Consulting Services for Electric Aggregation to Independent Energy Consultants, Inc. With the consultant's assistance the village will continue with implementation as outlined below. The village will hold two public hearings on its Electric Aggregation Program Plan of Operation and Governance. - First hearing will be held at 10am on March 11
- Second hearing will be held at 6pm on March 11
- Both hearings will be held in Meeting Room A of the Prairie Center for Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court
Municipal Electric Aggregation Implementation Process: - Referendum passed on November 6
- Review of Consultant's proposals
- Plan of Operations and Governance created & Ordinance (approved at Village Board meeting)
- Two Public Hearings to discuss the village's Plan of Operations and Governance
- Village submits Request for Proposals from Alternative Retail Electric Suppliers
- Alternative Retail Electric Supplier is chosen and contract is finalized
- Residents informed by mail of finalized rate for the supply of electricity
- Eligible residents receive Opt-Out letters from the village
- Residential and small commercial retail customer accounts switched from ComEd to the village's new electric supplier
The village's aggregation program will not affect how customers receive electricity, report outages or pay bills. Under the aggregation program, ComEd will no longer be generating electricity though they still distribute the electricity and will continue to be responsible for billing issues and power outages. Host Families Needed for May 9-12 German Exchange
 Between May 9 - 12, the village will be hosting visitors from Schaumburg, Germany. To ensure our guests receive an authentic American experience, the Schaumburg Sister Cities Commission is looking for host families for these guests.
Host responsibilities include providing breakfast and dinner, and transporting your guest to/from the daily group meeting locations. In return for your hospitality, you will have an opportunity to visit Schaumburg, Germany as part of one of Schaumburg Sister Cities program's upcoming exchanges.

Medical Loan Closet Temporarily Closed
 The village loans out medical equipment to Schaumburg Township residents for 90 days.
The loan closet will be temporarily closed for remodeling from March 20 through March 25. It will reopen on Tuesday, March 26 from 9am to 5pm at the Nursing Building located at 521 E. Schaumburg Road.

Overnight Parking
 Parking on village streets is prohibited between the hours of 2:30am and 6am - violators will be ticketed. If you need to park your vehicle overnight, you must contact the Police Department for permission. Overnight parking is limited to five requests within a 30 day period and will not be granted when there is two inches or more of snow fall.
Residents may request overnight parking by dialing 3-1-1 within Schaumburg or call the Police non-emergency number at 847.882.3586.

Recycling Event: April 20
The village's annual and very successful recycling event will be held on Saturday, April 20 from 10am to 3pm at the School District 54 office located at 524 East Schaumburg Road.
Residents are invited to recycle electronics, computers, televisions, batteries, CFL bulbs, oil, antifreeze, and more at this event. NO PAINT OR HAZARDOUS WASTE WILL BE ACCEPTED!

Care Track Emergency Response Team
 People with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Alzheimer's, or other similar conditions may wander from their homes and not be able to find their way back. These individuals are often unable to communicate their name or address to emergency responders. A special transmitter the size of a wrist watch that the special needs person can wear on their wrist or ankle may be purchased from the village. Schaumburg police personnel are trained with the Care Track equipment and can track the radio signal to quickly and safely return the person to their loved ones.

 The Illinois Department of Transportation has come out with a new Smartphone app called Travel Midwest Mobile. This app is completely free and available on Android and Apple phones and will allow commuters to access travel times and road conditions before getting on the road.

The Federal Video Relay Service
 ComEd wants to inform customers of an available video service for hearing and speech impaired customers to communicate with 3rd parties such as ComEd. The Federal Video Relay Service (VRS) allows customers to communicate via videoconferencing through the Internet, via a web camera, or video phone. This secure service is offered through the Federal government and uses certified Video Interpreters (VI) to sign conversations, in real time, between the customer and the interpreter. The hearing and speech impaired can use this service to communicate with ComEd for their customer service needs.

Schaumburg's Older Adult Market
The Older Adult Market, a choice-style food pantry that distributes fresh fruits and vegetables along with shelf-stable food items to older adults in the community will be open every other Friday. The next market takes place on March 15.
It is held in the Schaumburg Barn located at 231 S. Civic Drive. Hours are from 1pm to 2:30pm (or until the available food runs out).

Announcing the Schaumburg Senior Follies Variety Show
 Entertainers including singers, musicians, dancers, acrobats, comedians, and magicians are invited to audition for the village's new Senior Follies talent show at the Prairie Center for the Arts! Auditions will be held on Tuesday, March 19 at 2pm and 7pm and are open to area residents 62 and over.
Selected acts will perform at the Senior Follies variety show on Sunday, April 14 at 2pm.

Schaumburg WWII Vet Awarded Legion of Honor
 Schaumburg resident Jim Butz received the greatest honor France can bestow for his service toward its liberation in World War II. French Consul Graham Paul pinned the rare Legion of Honor medal first established by Napoleon Bonaparte on the lapel of the 88-year-old veteran of D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. Paul said Butz's receiving of the medal also honored all those American soldiers who made great personal sacrifices for his nation and the world. "More than 65 years ago, they gave their youth to France and the French people."
