Women's Big Ten Basketball Tournament
An estimated 20,000 people will attend the Women's Big Ten Basketball Tournament at the Sears Centre Arena and will frequent local Schaumburg businesses and restaurants from March 7 - 10. It's a celebration of one of the country's great athletic conferences and features the free "Skills & Thrills Fan Camp," a basketball inspired theme park, and an All-American autograph signing.

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS
In order to host a tournament of this size and scope, 200 volunteers are needed to assist in everything from welcoming guests to escorting teams inside the arena. As a volunteer you will receive a polo, free parking, BIG Ten credentials, and two complimentary tickets to basketball session of your choice.

ComEd has provided new technology enhancements to better communicate with customers affected during power outages.
To report an outage, ComEd customers can text OUT to 26633 (COMED) to report an outage and receive updates on their outage status. Customers can also download the new App for Smart phones; or follow them on Twitter @ComEd or Facebook at Facebook.com/ComEd to stay up to date on the latest ComEd info.
If you encounter a downed power line, immediately call ComEd at 1-800-EDISON1 (1.800.334.7661) or access the website and report the location. |

Cost Increased
The cost to mail a one-ounce letter increased by a penny to 46 cents per stamp on January 27. Mailing a postcard will also cost a penny more at 33 cents. A list of new U.S. Postal Service prices can be found here.

Metra 10-Ride Ticket Price Rises
The 10-ride ticket will cost more for Metra riders as of February 1. Those tickets will cost the equivalent of 10 one-way tickets instead of nine.

 Host Families Needed for May 9-12 German Exchange
 Between May 9 - 12, the village will be hosting visitors from Schaumburg, Germany. To ensure our guests receive an authentic American experience, the Schaumburg Sister Cities Commission is looking for host families for these guests.
Host responsibilities include providing breakfast and dinner, and transporting your guest to/from the daily group meeting locations. In return for your hospitality, you will have an opportunity to visit Schaumburg, Germany as part of one of Schaumburg Sister Cities program's upcoming exchanges. The cost of the trip will be quite reasonable because when you travel to Germany, you would stay as a guest with a German host family.

Overnight Parking
 Parking on village streets is prohibited between the hours of 2:30am and 6am - violators will be ticketed. If you need to park your vehicle overnight, you must contact the Police Department for permission. Overnight parking is limited to five requests within a 30 day period and will not be granted when there is two inches or more of snow fall
Residents may request overnight parking by dialing 3-1-1 within Schaumburg or call the Police non-emergency number at 847.882.3586.

U.S. Department of Transportation Gives Final Approval for Elgin O'Hare Western Access Project
The Illinois Tollway and Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) have been working with federal officials to secure the final authorization for the $3.4 billion project as part of the Illinois Tollway's 15-year, $12 billion capital program, Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future. The project will boost long-term economic development in northeastern Illinois and provide congestion relief that is projected to save drivers $145 million a year in time and fuel costs. The 'Move Illinois' Project is expected to reduce traffic congestion and create 65,000 new jobs by 2040. Learn more about this project. This project will benefit Schaumburg through greater access to O'Hare, I-90, and I-294 from the south side of the village, and our neighboring communities to the east.

Municipal Aggregation Implementation Process Status  The village will utilize a licensed energy consultant to assist in negotiations with a certified alternative retail electric supplier. The process of selecting and approving a consultant should be complete by the middle of February. Once the consultant is chosen the village will continue throughout the implementation process as outlined below. The village is planning to host the two public hearings between late February and March 2013 to review the Plan of Operations and Governance with residents and small business owners.

- Plan of Operations and Governance created & Ordinance (approved at Village Board meeting)
- Two Public Hearings to discuss the village's Plan of Operations and Governance
- Village submits Request for Proposals from Alternative Retail Electric Suppliers
- Alternative Retail Electric Supplier is chosen and contract is finalized
- Residents informed by mail of finalized rate for the supply of electricity
- Eligible residents receive Opt-Out letters from the village
- Residential and small commercial retail customer accounts switched from ComEd to the village's new electric supplier

 Residential computers, monitors, printers, and televisions are banned from being disposed of in landfills. Some manufactures and retail stores provide 'Take Back' programs. Check with your local retailer for details.

Travel Midwest Mobile App
 The Illinois Department of Transportation has come out with a new Smartphone app called Travel Midwest Mobile. This app is completely free and available on Android and Apple phones and will allow commuters to access travel times and road conditions before getting on the road.
Users should be able to go to either the Apple App Store (the iPhone App Store on their iPhone, not the Mac App Store on their Mac) or the Google Play Store on their Android device and simply search for "travel midwest" to find it.

Birthdays at the Barn
The first Monday of each month has been designated to honor those seniors at The Barn celebrating a birthday. Those attendees celebrating a birthday are treated to a cupcake with a candle and a free bingo card. The Barn is the place for fun, fellowship, and a nutritious meal for a low donation of $3.25.

Schaumburg's Older Adult Market 2013
The Older Adult Market, a choice-style food pantry that distributes fresh fruits and vegetables along with shelf-stable food items to older adults in the community will be open on the following dates:

- May 17 and 31
- June 12 and 28
- July 12 and 26
- August 16 and 30
- September 13 and 27
- October 11 and 25
- November 15
- December 13 and 27
The market is a collaborative effort between the Greater Chicago Food Depository and the Village of Schaumburg's Senior Program. It is held in the Schaumburg Barn located at 231 S. Civic Drive. Hours are from 1pm to 2:30pm (or until the available food runs out).

Announcing the Schaumburg Senior Follies Variety Show
 Entertainers including singers, musicians, dancers, acrobats, comedians, and magicians are invited to audition for the village's new Senior Follies talent show at the Prairie Center for the Arts! Auditions will be held on Tuesday, March 19 at 2pm and 7pm and are open to area residents 62 and over.
Selected acts will perform at the Senior Follies variety show on Sunday, April 14 at 2pm.
