NEW WALK-IN CARE SERVICE LAUNCHED
Urgent Care Capacity Expanded within Physician Offices
Walk-InCare

Accessing prompt and quality medical care on Nantucket has never been easier. Nantucket Cottage Hospital has launched a new Walk-In Care service during July and August and expanded urgent care capacity within its existing physician offices.

The new Walk-In Care service will help island residents and visitors access prompt medical attention - with no appointments necessary - for the treatment of non-life-threatening ailments.

Walk-In Care is intended for people on Nantucket who do not have an established relationship with a primary care physician. For those who already have a doctor on the island, Nantucket Cottage Hospital has recently added new clinicians within the existing physician offices, increasing capacity for urgent care visits and the ability to schedule same-day appointments. Patients with existing primary care physicians should call their doctor's office to receive prompt medical attention for a non-life-threatening condition.

Walk-In Care, a pilot program of NCH, will allow those in need of medical attention to avoid the emergency room for a range of ailments, including, but not limited to:

  • Coughs, colds & viruses
  • Minor scrapes & cuts
  • Sunburns
  • Asthma flares
  • Back pain
  • Illness
  • Rashes
  • Earaches
  • Infections
  • Tick bites
  • Minor bone injuries
  • Slips & falls
  • Muscle pain & sprains
  • Respiratory infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Sore throat
The Walk-In Care service is located in the Anderson Building on the Nantucket Cottage Hospital campus, and staffed by board certified family physicians Dr. Jeffrey Safer and Dr. Ron Scott, along with a team of talented clinicians.

"Old-fashioned herbal supplements and eating fresh, organic food are at the heart of my advice to my customers, but I also keep them informed about new research and cutting-edge supplements. I'm excited about a new hospital for the same reasons. While I have always had stellar care at Nantucket Cottage Hospital, I also recognize the need for new equipment, more surgical rooms, and up-to-date diagnostic systems to offer the best possible care for Nantucket's families and visitors."

SPORTS MEDICINE & PHYSICAL THERAPY
SMPTCUTS THE RIBBON AT NEW FACILITY

Sports Medicine & Physical Therapy Associates of Nantucket Cottage Hospital cut the ribbon on a new, state-of-the-art facility last week. The new space, located in the former Dan's Pharmacy building at 6 Bayberry Court, will allow the program's highly-skilled therapists to provide exceptional care in more private and spacious patient rooms.

The relocation of Sports Medicine & Physical Therapy to the new space was made possible by the Hospital Thrift Shop, which donated nearly $300,000 toward this effort.

"This is such an important health service for the island community so we wanted to contribute all that we could toward providing the space it deserves," said Cathy Ward, the president of the Hospital Thrift Shop's Board of Directors. "We're so pleased to have helped facilitate the relocation and we know it will immediately enhance the patient experience."

Linda Taylor, a longtime supporter of NCH and an advocate for quality health care on Nantucket, also contributed funds toward the relocation effort.

"The new space represents a significant improvement for our patients and the staff of the Sports Medicine & Physical Therapy Associates," said NCH President & CEO Dr. Margot Hartmann. "We're grateful to everyone who had a hand in helping this project come to fruition, and for the extraordinary contributions from the Hospital Thrift Shop."

Sports Medicine & Physical Therapy Associates offers comprehensive physical and occupational therapy services, including hands-on, one-on-one therapy sessions for patients with a wide range of diagnoses. Access to the department's physical and occupational therapists does not require a referral from a physician, and it accepts major insurance providers. Island residents and visitors can call 508-825-8191 to schedule an appointment.
