World-Class Cancer Care
Coming to Nantucket

Margot Hartmann, MD, PhD
President & CEO

Greetings! I'm pleased to announce that beginning in April, Nantucket Cottage Hospital will offer an array of new hematology/oncology services through its association with Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. This relationship reflects NCH's goal to maximize the number of services offered on Nantucket while simultaneously increasing the island's access to one of the best cancer treatment programs in the United States. Thanks to this collaboration, we can now offer a more comprehensive and integrated set of clinical services, a wider range of subspecialty cancer services from Mass General coupled with our own local talent and expertise - including Jane Kelly, APRN-BC who our patients have come to trust and rely upon. In the coming weeks, Jane will be detailing the full range of services and introduce each specialist involved - the expertise is truly impressive and I hope you'll join me in celebrating this exciting expansion!

Lawrason
Jock D. Lawrason, MD, FCCP
Triple Board-Certified Physician Joins NCH Team

Nantucket Cottage Hospital has named Dr. Jock Lawrason as
co-director of the Emergency Department (ED) and Chief Medical Officer for the hospital. After Fellowship training at Dartmouth, he became a triple board-certified physician in Internal, Pulmonary and Critical Care medicine. Dr. Lawrason brings with him more than 30 years of experience, including his recent post as Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Waterbury Hospital Health Center and Chief Medical Officer of the Alliance Medical Group in Waterbury, Connecticut. In that role, he helped establish a hospitalist program and a stroke program in conjunction with the American Heart Association. He also helped lead the implementation of an electronic medical record and served as a Quality Officer.

"I can't imagine a better fit than Jock for this role as it truly points to our growth from the inside out," said Dr. Margot Hartmann, President and CEO of Nantucket Cottage Hospital. "With this growth in leadership comes increased quality healthcare here on our island - an initiative that continues to make leaps and bounds, day-in, day-out."

In his role as an Occupational Therapist, Pedro provides acute and sub-acute in-patient occupational therapy service, focusing on activities of daily living, functional mobility and upper extremity strength. Pedro has advanced training in Home Modifications, Safety Restorative Rehabilitation and Upper Extremity Orthopedics.

Pedro first came to Nantucket in 1990 to work at Sankaty Head Caddie Camp, where he worked for 18 summers. He moved to Nantucket year-round in 2000, making the island his permanent home, along with his wife and son. His hobbies include paddle tennis, golf and staying active with all the outdoor activities Nantucket has to offer. Pedro earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Rehabilitation Services from Springfield College in 1995 and received his Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from Boston University in 2000.

Pedro can be reached at pamaral@partners.org or by calling 508-825-8191

Occupational therapy (OT) is a profession driven to address an individual's functional needs when they become limited in their ability to perform life roles as a result of injury, disease or developmental challenges. Occupational therapists help people participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities. A major focus of occupational therapy is rehabilitation related to impairments of the upper extremity (i.e. wrist, hand, shoulder, elbow, forearm).

Grateful for Nantucket Cottage Hospital
Wendi Murrell and her daughter
Lylah Love Murrell
Wendi Murrell
Hospital Supporter
Owner, White Glove Services of Nantucket, LLC

"I'm overwhelmed with gratitude for the professionalism of the nurses and the doctors at Nantucket Cottage Hospital during the recent delivery of my daughter Lylah Love Murrell. I didn't expect to have a C-section, and had never had major surgery, so it was very frightening. But the care that everyone provided was exceptional. My nurses were very attentive and caring, especially at night, when they spoke softly and cared for my baby while I had some much needed sleep."

"I'll never forget my experience at Nantucket Cottage Hospital, not just for the birth of my daughter, but also for the level of care and attention given to us."
