JANUARY 2016

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Confession time.  I have to admit that I have about two zillion photos of my dogs on my phone - far more than I have of my friends, or even my own children.  And Paula has even more photos of our clients' dogs (and cats, and birds, and ferrets, and ...).

But Paula's photos are far better than mine, so I asked her for some tips to help me take better pictures of the dogs.  My pups are both so cute and funny, and I wanted to know how to capture that with my camera. Some of her tips, and a few I've gathered from around the web, are posted below.

Anchor1Our Top 5 Tips for Great Pet Pictures
Following these simple tips will help you capture more great photos of the fun, and the cuteness.  #SuitableForFraming!
  1. Get closer.  Move in much closer, so the cuteness fills the viewfinder. You don't want a picture of your kitchen or the laundry basket in the hall; you want a picture of your pet! Scoot in close and get those adorable close-ups that really show their personality.
  2. Stand between your pet and the light.  If the light is in front of the camera, your pet will appear to be in the dark. Get the light source behind you as you photograph your pets. Natural light is always best.
  3. Get down to pet level.  Don't take pictures of the top of his head.  Get down low so the camera is looking straight into his face. That's where the cuteness is!
  4. Be patient.  If your pet is too interested in the camera, or too excited, or too energetic, just be patient and wait for him to relax. Remember, you can't hurry love.
  5. Take thousands of photos. Over time, your pets will come to accept the camera as a natural part of life, and you'll get better candid shots of him. Also, if you take a thousand photos, following these tips, some of them are bound to be fabulous. The best thing about digital photography is that the failures are free. Just delete the ones that don't make you happy.
