A Year of Celebration of Rabbi Friedman
Throughout the coming year, we will host a series of programs and lectures that celebrate and honor the rabbinate of our beloved Rabbi Ronne Friedman! Click here to learn more about our special guests: Rabbi Bradley Shavit Artson, Saul Kaye, Dr. Jacqueline Vayntrub, Ari Roth, Jeremy Burton, and more.
A Note From Rabbi Friedman
For the last three years, it has been my privilege to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Community Council of Greater Boston. During that time, I have also had an opportunity to share a significant number of communal initiatives with the JCRC Executive Director, Jeremy Burton. I have found him to be one of the very finest Jewish communal leaders with whom I have been associated during my years of my rabbinate. I commend to you read his article written last week for the Times of Israel, entitled, "Finding Hope Amidst Crisis."

He together with our CJP President, Barry Shrage and a group of volunteers, traveled to Israel in the midst of the current violence and unrest as an expression of support and in order to offer consolation to the family of Richard Lakin who was murdered on the #78 bus in Jerusalem, in a vicious attack. I was moved by Jeremy's words and affected by his insights and wanted to ensure that his article receives the wider attention that it deserves.

Sha'alu Shalom Y'rushalayim, Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem.

The Conversation Project
How to communicate your wishes for 'end of life' care
Friday, November 13 at Qabbalat Shabbat

At Temple Israel, we have had many ongoing discussions about mortality and preparedness. At Qabbalat Shabbat on November 13, we will be introducing the Conversation Project, a service dedicated to helping people talk about their wishes for end-of-life care.

Aging Celebrations and Challenges
Thursday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m.

Join Rabbi Elaine Zecher, Dr. Nick Morse and Valerie Zimber as we explore our reactions to having conversations about end of life wishes with our family and loved ones. We will engage in discussion about our own circumstances, ask questions and draw on the shared experiences of our fellow congregants as we continue to navigate this most important and sacred stage of life. RSVP to Sue Misselbeck.

Read more about the project here, and for more information and resources, visit http://theconversationproject.org.
Coming Soon: Insight into Temple Israel

Temple Israel has a reputation for pushing the envelope and continuing to adapt, which has served us well over our 165 year history. The upcoming issue of Insight into Temple Israel of Boston marks some noticeable changes to our Temple Israel Bulletin. Under the direction of our Director of Communications, Emma Sandler, we set out to redesign the Bulletin to make sure that it would be more focused on our congregation and core values rather than on our programs alone. After all, it is you, our members, who make our synagogue so unique and special.

The new concept will more deeply explore the innovative things that happen at Temple Israel with retrospective human-interest articles, written by various members of the community. As we make this change, we will be switching to a quarterly publication. The first issue of Insight should be arriving in your mailbox within the next few weeks, and we certainly welcome your feedback.

Connect at TI: A New Kind of Torah Study
Sunday, November 8, 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.

Feel a little uncomfortable when everyone assumes you know the story in this week's parsha? Maybe you don't know what a parsha is? Perhaps you once knew all bible stories in great detail but can no longer remember much of anything? Could it be that you love reading Torah, but don't have opportunities to discuss your questions and ideas with peers?

Here is an excellent excuse for you to skip errands, exercise and work during religious school. Join Temple Israel members Jen Weber and Lisa Gross for coffee, snacks, and a relaxed and interesting look at the stories the kids are learning. People with all levels of knowledge, from absolute neophytes to those who could teach a bible study class, are encouraged to attend.
