Florida State University Admissions for Seniors

The final opportunity to apply to Florida State University for the coming year is this Wednesday, January 14, 2015. All supporting documents must be turned in by the upcoming deadline.   

Off Campus Lunch

Next week students will go on the Honor Roll Lunch Trips to the Governor's Square Mall. The High School will go on Thursday, January 15th and the Middle School will go on Friday, January 16th.   

Youth Leadership Tallahassee - Sophomores
YLT is accepting applications for 2015-2016 class for students who will be Juniors next year. The deadline to submit your application is Friday, February 13, 2015 to Mr. Lieser. 

YLT is year-long program that brings together a diverse group of high-school juniors from public and private schools in Tallahassee who have demonstrated leadership potential in formal and informal situations, and prepares them to become ethical leaders committed to active community involvement.

Best and Brightest

Seniors: Do nobestt forget the deadline for The Best and Brightest scholarship nomination is January 31st. You should be working on your applications for this scholarship. The nomination requires a number of items and we do not want to wait until the last minute to get these done. Stop by the Guidance office for a list of items that will be needed.   

Girls State - Due in 3 Weeks

Girls State Applications are now available for all Junior Girls. Please check with one of the junior teachers or the Guidance Office for more information. Applications are due by February 1, 2015. Interviews will be conducted on Saturday, February, 14, 2015,
at 2:00pm at the American Legion Post located at 229 Lake Ella Drive. ALL applicants MUST attend. 
 

Bright Futures Scholarship Website Open for Seniors 

Seniors are now able to register and begin the application process which just opened up recently on December 1, 2014. You can register at: www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org.
An email with directions has previously been sent to all senior parents. If you did not receive the information, please contact the high school office to get a copy. Additional information is available at the Department of Education website. To view the current information go to: http://www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org/ssfad/bf/. At the top left you will be able to click on "What's New" to see the changes to the program for this year. The brochure for the current graduation class is available in the center of the page. There is information that will be useful for students from middle school through senior high on the site. If you need additional information, please contact the high school office.
 

 

Eagle Sports

Banquet

The banquet for varsity football and cheerleaders will be held on Monday, February 2, 6:30 p.m. at the Leon County Civic Center.   Tickets will go on sale at the end of next week.  Please contact Diane Todd in the athletic office for more information.   Varsity athletes can attend for no charge, but must sign up thru the athletic office to reserve a seat.

Basketball

The boys and girls basketball teams had big district wins this week against John Paul II.  Both teams will be in action at NFC this Saturday at 1:00 and 2:00.

 

Wrestling

The varsity wrestling team will be traveling to their first match on Friday-Saturday at Suwannee.  Good luck to Coach Wainwright and the boys varsity team members: 

Jonathan Wainwright, David Lunn, Matt McCardle, Landon Albritton, Gabe Hernandez, and Jonathan Carter

Softball
Girls that missed the sign up but are still interested in softball please contact Coach Gorham at dennisgorham@nflchurch.com    Practices start January 12.

Tennis

There is a sign-up sheet is available in Athletic Office for any students grades 7-12 that are interested in playing Tennis this year. An information meeting will be scheduled soon.

Cheerleading
Congratulations to Coach Nicolette Phillips for her induction into the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders Hall of Fame! 

5th Grade Trip to WCTV

Fifth graders are looking forward to their upcoming field trip to WCTV studios.  During the one hour tour of the studios, the 5th graders will be able to learn more about what is actually involved in the production of daily weather reports and will be introduced to the "weather green screen" used in weather reporting.  Students will also be taken to the control room where directors will be working in putting together the news reports for that day.  The trip will provide a great follow-up to our science chapter dealing with weather. 

 

5th Grade Step Up Day

On Tuesday January 27th, our fifth graders will get a taste of middle school as they step up to sixth grade. Students will visit the sixth grade classrooms and find out what they can expect next year as they enter middle school life. Parents are welcome to attend this special time from 1:45-2:30. OPEN HOUSE

Report Cards 

Monday evening, January 12th from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. we will hold our Open House Night for parents and students to come and pick up report cards for the Second Nine Weeks. Come on out and talk to  your student's teachers.

 

During Open House, you can stroll through the Winter Art Gallery in Mrs. Anderson's room in the elementary building. You will have the opportunity to see many impressive works of art created by our students. 

 

4th Grade State Reports Meeting  

There will be a meeting during Open House for all parents of fourth graders to discuss the Florida State Report that will be assigned this month. This is a major project for the students. You will  want to be at the meeting to get the information  

Mr. Scott will be presnting. The meeting will be in his classroom. 

Senior Trip

Please be in prayer for our seniors the week of January 19-23, 2015 as they travel to Colorado for their senior trip. This is always a special time for students and administration and serves as the final trip of their high school careers.

 

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

There will no school on January 19th for the observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. 

 

Pastries with Parents

On January 23rd, the NFC Preschool will host its Pastries with Parents. We invite all parents of our preschoolers to visit their child's classroom for a special time of refreshments and fun. It will begin at 8:00am so that even those who need to get to work can stop by for a quick treat. We hope to see you there!

Worlds Finest

The annual NFCS World's Finest Chocolate Sale kicked off on Wednesday, February 4th. The sale will last through Friday, February 20th. Students in elementary and middle school will again be selling World's Finest Chocolate Covered Toasted Almonds. The candy will sell for $2.00 a box.

UF Young Entrepreneur Summer Camp 

Sponsored by UF's Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, in Partnership with UF's Center for Precollegiate Education & Training and the UF Office of Sustainability, this program is for motivated, college-bound rising juniors and seniors who are interested in Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship, Leadership, and Sustainability.
