Combined Adult Summer Sunday School

9:30 am Sundays in July and August

This summer, as we come together as a church to know, love, and serve God, we are finding new ways to grow together in faith and fellowship. Join us for this exciting lineup of teachers, studies, and speakers for adult Sunday school in July and August:

July 7-August 4: Adult Sunday School in Room 211

(Wesleyan Fellowship classroom)

Join us for an Independence Day celebration on July 7 before starting a four-week journey, led by Andy Weaver, through Luke chapters 10-12 in which we will prepare for worship each week by exploring examples Jesus gave us to respond to the gospel.

*Note: The College and Young Adult class will continue to meet in Room 206 as they study When Christians Get it Wrong by Adam Hamilton

August 11-25: Intergenerational Sunday School in the Youth Center

What is it like to be a child, youth, young adult, or senior adult at Reveille? What experiences, needs, gifts, and vision does each age group have to share? Join us for three weeks in August in the youth center for a time of music, personal testimony, and reflection.  Second through fifth grade will join all youth and adults for the first half hour before leaving to participate in an activity in another classroom.

89 Servants in Swansboro

Over a year ago, I asked myself "What if...?" What if we redirected the resources we normally invest in an out-of state trip and focused them locally in Swansboro? What if our youth and adults had opportunities to work together on projects that would continue once our work week is done? What if those focused resources allowed us to break into the Swansboro community in ways Reveille has been unable to do? After much work, many prayers, and great leaps of faith, those questions have an answer in the church's sponsorship of the Habitat home and in the many other ways we are developing a presence in the Swansboro neighborhood.

On July 14, a mission team of 74 youth and 15 adults will kick off a week of service in the Swansboro community as part of Reveille's larger summer of service. Divided into teams of adults and youth, the group will serve in a variety of ways. Older teens and adults will raise the walls on the Habitat home Reveille is sponsoring. Other teams will build wheelchair ramps and perform home repairs through project: HOMES. Still others will serve the elderly in the community by volunteering at Riverside PACE. Teams will partner with the boy scouts from Swansboro Baptist Church to create a community vegetable garden; dozens of Reveille members will participate in "A Brush With Kindness," a Habitat-sponsored community fix-up day in the neighborhood around Reveille's Habitat home.

Please be in prayer as the team prepares to serve, both for the team members and for the community and the lives our service will touch. Reveille hopes to form lasting relationships in Swansboro through these projects, and to establish partnerships that provide long-term ministry opportunities for our members. We need your prayers, support and service to fulfill this call from God.

Mission and Movie

Join the Children's Ministry 2nd summer sponsored event - CARITAS night on Wednesday, July 24. We will host a potluck dinner for our 40 CARITAS guests. The Children's Ministries will provide the fried chicken and dessert; you supply a side dish to share. The meal will begin around 5:30 pm.

After the potluck dinner, we will host a family friendly movie night on the lawn. In sponsoring the CARITAS night, we also need volunteers for the following:

  • set-up of the potluck dinner
  • servers for the fried chicken
  • servers for our ice cream dessert bar
  • help with clean-up after the meal
  • help prepare the bag lunches for the following day
  • bring in breakfast items for the next day
  • two people to spend the night as a host for CARITAS
  • help serve breakfast early on Thursday morning

Please contact Lori Epps at children@reveilleumc.org or 359-6041, ext. 117 if you are interested in volunteering.

Thank you to the many Reveille members who brought in canned food donations for our Virginia Annual Conference. We collected 82 canned and boxed items and filled a total of seven grocery bags of food. Thank you to Sheelagh and Dick Davis, who transported these items to Conference. Way to go Reveille Family! You have made such a difference in the fight against hunger!
