Look for Three Gospel Sermon Series TopThroughout the Summer

This summer Reveille's worship services will take a deeper look at the Gospel with three different sermon series. Look for opportunities to prepare yourself for worship including the Adult GPS, the Family GPS, and the book Interpretation: Philippians and Galatians. See below for the upcoming worship schedule:

What is the Gospel?

June 2 - July 7

A deep look at what the Book of Galatians

tells us about the Gospel.

How do we respond to the Gospel?

July 14 - August 4

Examining examples Jesus gives us to respond

to the Gospel in Luke 10-12.

Are the prophets speaking the Gospel?

August 11 - September 1

Exploring the ways difficult prophetic Old Testament passages from Jeremiah and Isaiah

help us to understand the Gospel.

Sunday Worship

June 16, 2013

8:30, 9:30 and 11:00 am

Preacher: The Rev. Stephen Coleman

Scripture: Luke 7:36-49; Galatians 2:11-21

Sermon: "Why Does the Gospel Matter?"

Last Sunday for Annual Conference

Missions Offering

The Virginia Annual Conference will convene on June 21 in Hampton. Each year Reveille participates in the Annual Conference offering for our missions. This year the focus is on children in Brazil, Mozambique, Cambodia, and here at home with projects like The Henry Fork Center and All God's Children. The Conference goal is $200,000. You may contribute through this Sunday, June 16, by marking Annual Conference Offering on the memo line of your check.

Last Sunday to Bring Cans for Conference

For the fifth year, each clergy and lay member of Annual Conference is encouraged to bring '4 Cans 4 Conference,' canned goods or boxed dry foods to benefit local area food banks. This year, the food will go to the Peninsula Food Bank.

Requested are: one can of vegetables or fruit, one can of meat or fish, one can of soup or stew and one can with a pop-top. In addition, there is a need for cereal, boxed/packaged mixes (Hamburger Helper, pancakes, soup, etc.), rice, instant potatoes, powdered drinks, peanut butter and jelly.

The goal this year is to collect more than five tons (one ton for each year the collection has existed). Over the last four years, about 9,000 to 9,500 pounds of food have been contributed each year.

Let's be a part of the connectional church by helping to meet this goal. Everyone can participate. Whether you bring one can of food or 100 cans, every can makes a difference in the lives of the hungry. Please bring your canned food donations to the welcome center by this Sunday, June 16 and place it in the designated containers. If you have any questions, please contact Lori Epps, Director of Children's Ministries, at children@reveilleumc.org or 359-6041, ext. 117.

Samaritan Fund Drive Continues through this Sunday

Gifts to the Samaritan Fund provide financial assistance for residents of the Virginia United Methodist Homes (VUMH) who have outlived their monetary resources. No Samaritan funds are used for operational, capital or administrative costs. Your gifts are used only for the residents' care.

While gifts to VUMH are always welcome, the annual drive for the Samaritan Fund is conducted between Mother's Day and Father's Day, so its conclusion is this coming Sunday, June 16. Please make your check payable to Reveille UMC and reference it Samaritan Fund.

Last Chance for Directory Pictures

Two new dates were added for pictorial directory photos: June 19 and 20. To schedule, click here or call the church office, 359-6041, ext. 125.

Weekly Family "Play and Pray" Begins this Week!

Wednesdays at 10:00 am, June 19 - August 28

Reveille Playground and Picnic Shelter

Ready to get out of the house, see friends, and engage in a time of fun, fellowship, and learning? Invite your friends and bring your children of all ages starting this Wednesday, June 19 for a weekly time of fellowship, play time, snacks, kid's activities, and adult and kid's devotional based on the lectionary and GPS. Church doors will be unlocked for necessary bathroom breaks, but all activities will take place in the picnic shelter, rain or shine.

For questions contact Kelly Weaver at kellysweaver@hotmail.com.

Church-Wide Wednesday Night Dinner,

Ice Cream Social, and Game Night

On Wednesday, June 19 join us for a very special Wednesday night dinner and ice cream social, followed by a game night, sponsored by Children's Ministries. The meal will begin at 6:00 pm. Game night will run from 6:45-8:00 pm in the fellowship hall. Start your summer off right by joining us for a time of food, fun, and fellowship. I have even heard rumors that there will be prizes. Please rsvp to Lori Epps at children@reveilleumc.org or call (804) 301-6215, ext. 117.

Support Friends of the Homeless Hot Meal

Thursday, June 27, is Reveille's day to serve a hot meal to some of Richmond's homeless population. Your help is needed more than ever during the summer months because our crowd grows as we feed out-of-school children in addition to our regular adult guests.

Friends of the Homeless

Will you provide a potato casserole? Recipes and drop-off directions are on the sign-up board in the welcome center. Can you bake a homemade dessert? Our dinner guests always appreciate them. Can you help serve the meal at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church? We leave Reveille around 10:45 am and return about 12:30 pm. Child care is provided if you contact Lori Epps by June 19. There is also a drop-off spot by the foot of the red carpet stairs if you have extra plastic food containers or Ziploc bags to donate. Please contact Joanna Tilley at sandjtilley@comcast.net or call Katie B. Anthony at the church office at 359-6041, ext. 111 for more information.

Sign-up for Habitat

By Abby Baker and Heather MacIver

Join the Reveille summer of service! Starting June 20 and continuing through November, Reveille will build a new home for a single mom, Dina, and her four children with Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity. The house is located on McRand Street, close to Swansboro Elementary School, where Reveille members are actively engaged.

We need at least 250 volunteers to help with the build and other activities. The build calendar, showing dates and number of volunteers and instructions for how to sign up for your preferred date, can be found at http://www.reveilleumc.org/reveille-habitat-house. Please visit the welcome center or email Abby Baker or Heather MacIver for more information at reveillehabitat@gmail.com. Thank you for being part of our fellowship in Christ with the greater Swansboro community.

Shoppers, Cooks and Servers Wanted

From July 14 through July 19, 100 of Reveille's youth and chaperones will be serving God by working on Reveille's Habitat for Humanity house in the Swansboro district and/or serving in various other ways around the Swansboro community. Since the youth and chaperones will be staying in the Richmond area this year, we are asking for volunteers to help prepare and serve dinner or breakfast one of the days. We need folks who would be willing to shop for groceries, prepare food for a meal or serve one of the meals. If you are part of a group that would like to take ownership of a meal, that is even better! Please contact Kay Craven at cravendk@aol.com if you would like to help or call Dwayne Stinson in the church office at 359-6041, ext. 122.

An Inspiring Story...

Cathy Armistead

A choir member recently told me that she was eating lunch in a group setting, and in casual conversation she mentioned Reveille's presentation of Jesus Christ Superstar in July. A man spoke up and said that seeing that musical in the 70's was what led him to become a Christian - what a powerful witness for this rock opera, composed by Andrew Lloyd Weber! God uses many different ways to touch people's hearts and change their lives, and we are SO fortunate at Reveille to have many different children, youth and adults involved in music, through which God can speak!

JC Superstar

Please take this opportunity to invite friends, family and neighbors to experience Jesus Christ Superstar on July 12, 13, 14, 16 and 18, with all performances taking place at 7:30 pm in our sanctuary! This is unlike anything we have ever undertaken, and we do this to share the Gospel of Christ with as many people as possible, and thank you for being a partner with us in sharing this most inspiring Story!
