TopThe Work God Has for Us to Do

Dwayne Stinson

Because we are followers of Christ, God has work for us to do. God calls us to love others. God calls us to embody justice and to challenge in justice. God calls us to proclaim - in words and with our lives - the gospel message that "the Kingdom of God has drawn near" (Luke 10:9).

On Sunday, May 12, at the 9:30 am and 11:00 am services, Reveille's youth will share the various ways in which God puts us to work. Two of our graduating seniors, Kirby Collett and Lee Gray, will share the message, and other youth will share Scripture, song, and stories.

God's work varies as broadly as human personalities, gifts and strengths vary, but like all useful tools, each of us has a role to play. Please join us on Youth Sunday to learn what work God has for you to do for God's kingdom.

Let Us Know about Your College Graduates

On Sunday, May 19, Reveille will celebrate all who have graduated from high school, college, or graduate school this year. Please email Jennifer McCluskey to share the name of your proud graduate!

Samaritan Offering Starts This Sunday

Gifts to the Samaritan Fund, which are received from Mother's Day, May 12, through Samaritan Fund Father's Day, June 16, provide financial assistance for residents of the Virginia United Methodist Homes who have outlived their monetary resources. No Samaritan funds are used for operational, capital or administrative costs. Your gifts are totally for the residents' care.

Samaritan Fund offering envelopes are available in the narthex, the chapel, and at the pick-up table at The Point. There are also special envelopes for this offering in the dated envelope packet members receive at home.

Hear Great Music, Support Swansboro

Love music? Want to help support Swansboro Elementary School? Do both by  enjoying a night of musical variety sponsored by Elizabeth Bell and featuring musicians and singers from the Richmond community. Selections will range from classical, to jazz, to modern pieces and will showcase the talent of many performers, including some Reveille members.

Concert proceeds will go toward Swansboro's Dancing Classrooms program, which teaches ballroom dancing to students as a vehicle for learning manners and respect. The concert will be at 7:30 pm on Friday, May 17, in the Reveille sanctuary. A dessert reception will follow. If you would like to support Dancing Classrooms, see Reveille musicians perform, or just hear some great music, we hope to see you there!

Messiah: Part III!

Cathy Armistead

Are you a fan of George Frideric Handel's Messiah? If so, you will want to be in   attendance at Reveille's annual Mission Benefit Concert on Sunday, May 19 at 7:00 pm, in theMission Benefit Concert church sanctuary! You will also hear Ralph Vaughn Williams's Five Mystical Songs, accompanied by strings and Dr. Charles Staples, on our Steinway concert grand piano. The combined chancel choirs of Shady Grove United Methodist Church, Mechanicsville, and Reveille will offer these choral masterworks, with solos by Robert Phanord, II, Carrie Armistead, Reginald Potts, IV, Kara Wiseman, Craig Smith and Ken Krause. Bryan Greer, Director of Music at Shady Grove, and Cathy Armistead, Director of Music at Reveille, will conduct.

The evening of music will begin with selections, both sacred and popular, by the Reveille Ringers. A catered reception in the fellowship hall will follow the concert. Child care is available for children age three and under.

The mission of this concert is the Swansboro ministry. If you would like to be a donor, you will find donation forms in the narthex and the welcome center. Please complete a form and place it in Cathy Armistead's mailbox in the church office, or take it home and mail it in. If you wish to be listed as a sponsor in the concert program, May 14 is the deadline.

Confirmation Class Produces New Members

Dwayne Stinson

In September 2012, 22 of Reveille's 8th graders began a journey. Since their opening retreat, those youth have studied the history of the church and of the Confirmation Methodist movement. They have studied the Bible, learned how to spell "prevenient grace" (and hopefully, have learned what it means as well). They have served others, attended worship at other churches and learned about the means of grace and the flow of the church year. Their nine- month journey takes a new turn on May 19, when 21 youth will make the commitment to accept Christ as their personal savior and to make Reveille their church home. They will hold the same membership status as adult members, with all the rights and responsibilities that come with membership.

Please keep these youth in your prayers as they prepare to begin the next phase of their journey of faith, this time as Reveille members: Kelly Baxter, Caroline Bell, Molly Black, John Bullock, Bailey Butler, Sid Caravati, Anna Lyle Collett, Oliver Creasey, Liddy Custer, Mariah Diederich, Caroline Ennis, Hannah Epps, Jackson Fuller, Dameon Hite, Mary Kern, Abigail Killius, Adair Logue, Meredith Neurohr, Kate Oelkers, Libby O'Neill, and Matt Salmon.

Please prepare to welcome them among Reveille's newest members.

Reveille Today Graduates to Join May 19

Along with the large class of confirmands listed above, the following people will unite with the Reveille family as professing members on May 19: Lou Adams, James and Kelly Beazley, Lee and Allison Bridges, Roburt and Samantha Kickler, Brian and Rebekah Wrenn.

Support Swansboro Clean Up Day

On Saturday, May 18, from 9:00 am-12:00 pm, bring your muscles and a willing  Clean up reversed spirit for a three-hour cleanup of the Swansboro area. Reveille members will join together with local residents to help clean up the neighborhood. City trash trucks will help the working teams pick up large and small items. If you would prefer to work in the Swansboro Elementary School community garden, master gardener Nan Sweet welcomes you.

We will meet at the Swansboro Elementary School, located at 3160 Midlothian Turnpike, at 8:45 am. Please wear old clothes and bring strong gloves, water and a snack.

This would be a great father/older son opportunity. To sign up, go to the Summer of Service registration here. For questions, email Sheelagh Davis.

Friends of the Homeless Hot Meal - May 23

Friends of the Homeless The people we serve on the fourth Thursdays of each month are so very appreciative. If you have helped in the past, please accept a big thank you. The ministry is ongoing, so we need your help again. If this outreach opportunity is new to you, we would love for you to join us.  Please sign up on the board in the welcome center if you would like to prepare a potato casserole or help serve the hot meal at Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church on May 23. For more information, email Mary Jane Walls.

Sign up for Habitat for Humanity

Join us during our summer of service!  Beginning in July, Reveille will sponsor and build a new home with Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity for a family in the greater Swansboro community.

We need your help! Sign up today to let us know you are interested in volunteering this summer. While you need to be 16 or older to help build the home, we need volunteers to help with other tasks as well. Sign up to help here or visit our Habitat table in the welcome center on Sunday.

If you have any questions, please email co-champions Abby Baker and Heather MacIver.

Acolytes and Crucifers: Contact Your Coordinator

with Summer Schedule Changes

If you are a chapel acolyte, sanctuary acolyte, or a crucifer (or the parent of one), please let your schedule coordinator know BY MAY 15 of any changes in your availability to serve from June through September. We will prepare new schedules soon after that date, so we need to hear from you now.

Typically, graduating high school seniors will not be called upon to serve during the summer; however, if you are available during the summer and would still like to serve, please let us know.

Chapel acolytes are in the third grade and up and serve at the 8:30 am service. Sanctuary acolytes are in the sixth grade and up. Crucifers are those 8th grade and up, male and female, who have served at least one year as a sanctuary acolyte and feel comfortable carrying the processional cross. Sanctuary acolytes and crucifers serve at the 11:00 service.

Please note that it is not assumed that when a chapel acolyte finishes fifth grade he/she will become a sanctuary acolyte; we must be notified of that desire or we will assume that service in the chapel will continue.

All who serve as acolytes and crucifers are greatly appreciated. We extend our thanks to them and to their families for participating in this ministry.
