Mission Benefit Concert - May 19

For almost 20 years Reveille's music ministry has sponsored a mission benefit concert every spring, and this year is no exception! Our Chancel Choir and the Mission Benefit Concert Reveille Ringers will host the concert on Sunday, May 19, at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary. The program will begin with the Reveille Ringers playing sacred and secular selections, followed by the joint choirs of Shady Grove United Methodist Church, Mechanicsville, and Reveille singing Messiah: Part III, by George Frideric Handel, and Five Mystical Songs, by Ralph Vaughn Williams. The concert will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra and conducted by Bryan Greer and Cathy Armistead, Directors of Music for the two churches.

The beneficiary this year is the Swansboro ministry. If you would like to make a donation, please pick up a donor sheet in the narthex and return it to Cathy's box in the office. If you would like your name to appear in the concert program, please return the sheet by May 14. Thank you for considering this gift, and please plan to attend the concert! A catered reception in the fellowship hall will follow the program.

Youth News

Dwayne Stinson

On Sunday, May 5, the youth group will finalize the planning for Youth Sunday, with the theme "God Has Work for Us to Do." Youth

The schedule for the evening is as follows:

     4:30 pm - Combined choir

     5:30 pm - Dinner ($3)

6:00 pm - Combined youth group

Youth group ends for the year on Sunday, May 12, with an end-of-year picnic and goodbye to our graduating seniors.

High school seniors: Reveille is your family. Please let the church office know your plans for fall. At worship on May 12, Reveille will recognize our graduating seniors, so please confirm whether you are available to be part of the 11:00 am service that day.

Youth and adults interested in helping with the UMFS (United Methodist Family Services) prom on May 18 (6:00 - 9:00 pm) can contact Dwayne  to sign up. We need help with decorating, preparing and serving dinner, and cleaning up so that we can provide a memorable and fun evening for the 75 students who will participate.

Acolytes and Crucifers: Contact Your Coordinator

with Summer Schedule Changes

If you are a chapel acolyte, sanctuary acolyte, or a crucifer (or the parent of one), please let your schedule coordinator know by May 15 of any changes in your availability to serve from June through September. We will prepare new schedules soon after that date, so we need to hear from you now.

Typically, graduating high school seniors will not be called upon to serve during the summer; however, if you are available during the summer and would still like to serve, please let us know.

Chapel acolytes are in the third grade and up and serve at the 8:30 am service. Sanctuary acolytes are in the sixth grade and up. Crucifers are those in eighth grade and up, male and female, who have served at least one year as a sanctuary acolyte and feel comfortable carrying the processional cross. Sanctuary acolytes and crucifers serve at the 11:00 service.

Please note that it is not assumed that when a chapel acolyte finishes fifth grade he/she will become a sanctuary acolyte; we must be notified of that desire or we will assume that service in the chapel will continue.

All who serve as acolytes and crucifers are greatly appreciated. We extend our thanks to them and to their families for participating in this ministry.

The ParentLINK Children's Ministry Newsletter

The ParentLINK newsletter is a great resource for parents, grandparents, or anyone who is interested in learning more about children. This resource, created by Group Publishing, highlights a specific theme each month. In addition to the thematic information, the newsletter also has sections that review upcoming movies, books, and music, as well as games for children. Make sure to take a look at the personalized calendar with upcoming events for children and families at Reveille, as well as a more in-depth written section that gives you all the details you would want to know.  Read the May ParentLINK here.

Vacation Bible School Registration is In Progress

Vacation Bible School, open to children from age four through rising second graders, will take place July 29-August 2 from 9:00 am to noon. There will be no charge to attend VBS this summer.

This year's theme is "Everywhere Fun Fair."  The children will learn about our neighbors in countries such as Japan, Zimbabwe, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Mexico. They will focus on the Bible verse theme, "Love the Lord your God.... and your neighbor as yourself," from Luke 10:27. Activities will include crafts, missions, music, recreation, and snack time. It will be a great week as we look to see how God's World comes together. Online registration began Sunday, April 14. Register your child here

For more information, please email Jennifer Rosen or call Lori Epps, Director of Children's Ministries, at 359-6041, ext. 117.

Vacation Bible School Wishes

In addition to seeking volunteers for our week-long Vacation Bible School, (please visit 2013.cokesburyvbs.com/reveilleumc to volunteer) we have several wishes for supplies. We are looking for a black top hat, large circus animals for decoration (for example, a big stuffed elephant), carnival games, a large snow cone machine, a large cotton candy machine, and a dunk tank.  If anyone has a connection with a rental company or can donate any of these items for the week of July 29-August 2, please email Jennifer Rosen or call Lori Epps in the church office at 359-6041, ext. 117.

The children will go out into our community and serve others in Jesus' name, and they will learn about loving God and each other through various activities here at Reveille. On Thursday evening we will host a celebration of the week for participants and their parents, followed by a sleepover for the children. Please register and sign up to volunteer here.

If you would like more information, please email Ellie Speer or Lori Epps, or call 359-6041, ext. 117.
