Reception for Anne StrattonTop

Sunday, March 17

12:00 noon, immediately after 11:00 am worship

Welcome Center

On March 17, please join us at a reception to thank Anne Stratton, Administrative Manager, for her 17 years of Anne Stratton excellent and dedicated service to Reveille and to wish her well as she retires March 29 and begins a new phase in her life's journey. Over the years Anne has been the first point of contact for Reveille, providing assistance and direction to the congregation and community. She has served us well with caring, compassion, sensitivity, effectiveness, flexibility, and humor, putting the needs of the church first. Anne has contributed to Reveille beyond the duties of her job, participating 10 years as a Stephen Minister, co-chairing the reception as part of Reveille's annual memorial service, and serving on the recent Building Committee, all while attending her own church.

If you would like to prepare a card or note for Anne, a memory box is located in the welcome center and will be presented to her at the reception. Please join us at the reception to help celebrate Anne and her ministry of service to Reveille.

Reveille Updates Website

After many months of hard work, Reveille recently launched an updated website. This effort was the result of numerous helping hands, including the Communications Committee and many others. Special recognition goes to Glenda Lewis for Updated website generously devoting her time and considerable talents to this important ministry.

Our goals in updating the website were two-fold. First, we wanted to ensure all content is current, accurate and consistent with the information included in the recently-published Ministry Manual. Second, we wanted to make sure the layout is visually appealing, easy to navigate and presents information about Reveille relevant to the many different audiences with whom the church communicates. The updated website will provide information and will be used for event registration.

You will find that the new website has more pictures to represent the various ministries of the church. Do you have pictures you would like to add to the website? Email them to rumcpics@gmail.com.

We invite you to visit the site on a regular basis to stay informed of the many different activities and events in the life of the church. If you have any questions about the new site, email Associate Pastor Katie B. Anthony or call her at 359-6041, ext. 111.

2013 Lent and Easter Offering

Our 2013 Lent and Easter offering will purchase Easter lilies to adorn all of our Easter lily worship spaces on Easter Sunday, as well as benefit the One Great Hour of Sharing offering. A sufficient number of lilies needed to decorate for all of our Easter worship services will be purchased and the remaining money will be directed to One Great Hour of Sharing.

The One Great Hour of Sharing offering provides for the  administrative costs of United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR) so that 100% of the donations you give to the special offerings for disaster relief will be used for relief efforts and not for administrative costs.

Outreach Offering - OGHS Donations to this offering may be in any amount and may be made in honor of or in memory of someone, if you wish. To have your donation acknowledged in the Easter (March 31) printout of these gifts, be sure to return your completed lavender order form with your check or cash no later than Sunday, March 24. The form and donation should be put in the offering plate or basket or sent to the church office. The form may be printed here or picked up in the narthex, welcome center, fellowship hall or church office.

Easter lilies may be removed from the fellowship hall following the 9:30 am service and from the remaining spaces following the 11:00 am worship service. The church will be closed on the Monday after Easter, and all remaining lilies will be discarded on Tuesday morning, April 2. If you wish to take a lily to a homebound member or for yourself, please take it with you on Easter Sunday.

Youth News

Each day every Reveille member passes homes, stores, and community service agencies. We see panhandlers on the street, children who get breakfast only if it's free at school, business people driving luxury cars who may feel empty and lonely despite their wealth.

Reveille's youth live in a city full of joy and full of hurt. As we discussed last week at youth group, we Christians should allow Christ's love to overflow in us to touch our family and friends, and then into the community around us. Every person each of us encounters should experience Christ's love when they relate to us. That is our theme for Sunday, March 17 at youth group.

 Youth

The schedule for the evening is as follows:

4:30 pm - Middle school youth group/high school choir

Reveille's UMW Palm Sunday Bake Sale

Sunday, March 24

9:00 am to 12 noon

Fellowship Hall, Main Hall to Sanctuary and Welcome Center

Do you have friends and family coming in town for Easter? Heading to the river or the beach and need something special to take for dessert? Never fear: the popular UMW (United Methodist Women) Palm Sunday Bake Sale is back again and will offer Bake sale 2 a wonderful variety of baked goods for you to share with your friends and family on this special holiday.

The UMW hosts two bake sales each year, and they are a main source of fundraising. This fundraising goes toward local charities the UMW has supported for many years, as well as to providing camperships to youth in the Swansboro Community to attend Westview On The James in the summer.

The UMW has four circles and many accomplished bakers, so there is sure to be something to please everyone! We need support from all the circles to make this a success again. If you love to bake and are not a circle member please feel free to donate something!

Items may be dropped off on Friday, March 22 in the fellowship hall kitchen between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm or brought with you to church on the Sunday, March 24. Please label all items dropped off early "Reveille UMW Bake Sale." How the items are wrapped and labeled sometimes makes all the difference!

The bake sale accepts both cash and checks. Plan to come and pick out the perfect thing to end your meal for Easter. The UMW thanks all its members in advance for their hard work putting this together. Let's see if together we can make this the most successful bake sale ever!

For more information on the bake sale or on how to get involved with the UMW, email Laura Holdych or call Jennifer McCluskey, Director of Adult Ministries, at 359-6041, ext. 121.

Sign-up for UMFS Potluck

March 25, 6:00 pm

3900 W. Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23230

During this Lent, attendees of The Point have challenged each other to "Connect with Neighbor" by spending time with a group of students they help support through the year, the students of UMFS (formerly known as United Methodist Family Services). On February 25, more than 70 Reveille folks and UMFS residents joined together in the welcome center for a night of food and fellowship. The fried chicken was hot, the bingo was competitive, and the laughter was contagious.

UMFS has invited Reveille to have another potluck, but at their location on Monday, March 25 at 6:00 pm. It was earlier announced that this meal would only be for adults; however, a room now has been reserved for Reveille children during the potluck. (Please note this is a UMFS policy).

All are invited for this evening of fun! If you would like to join The Point in taking up the challenge to connect with neighbors, sign-up online to bring your favorite side-dish or dessert. In addition to bringing food, other ways to help are available. If you would like to help with an activity during the meal or help watch the Reveille children, email Stephen Coleman or call him at 359-6041, ext. 115.

Reflection on Connecting with God and Neighbor

I am a person who truly loves the joy that Easter brings! If I am honest with myself, I also have to admit that I have a hard time with the solitude of the Lenten season. Beginning with the darkness of Ash Wednesday and the following 40 days of Lent, we are challenged to reflect and repent. Growing up in the Methodist church, I can remember attending Ash Wednesday services every year with my family. I also remember pondering each year, "What will I have to give up this year?" It was always a time of resenting having to give up chocolate, soda, French fries, or a television show. It wasn't until my adulthood that I began to grasp the connection with giving something up and the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross for me. In truly beginning to reflect on Jesus' sacrifice, I began to better appreciate this season of reflection and repentance. I was able to worship more fully, reflect on scripture more often, and really give thanks for the many blessings I have by serving. I do believe it is important to give up something during Lent in order to appreciate that Easter is coming. However, in recent years, I have enjoyed taking something on. This is why I have really appreciated Reveille's Lenten Challenge to Connect with God and Connect with Neighbors. I have been able to journey down this path to prepare my heart and mind for the joy that is coming with Easter Sunday. Starting conversations with my Reveille family during the Fellowship Challenge times, eating with children, youth, and adults at the UMFS potluck, serving lunch at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church for Friends of the Homeless, and reading to a 3rd grade class at Swansboro Elementary on Dr. Seuss Day are some of the paths that I have taken this Lenten season. I am so very blessed to have been able to connect with neighbor and to more fully connect with God through these experiences. Easter is coming my friends, and along with it the responsibility to respond with JOY! May God bless your journey this Lent and may you be ready to celebrate Easter morning by reflecting on the path you took this year.

Lori Epps, Director of Children's Ministries

CONNECT WITH GOD, CONNECT WITH NEIGHBOR

Have you taken the 2013 Lenten Challenge to "Connect with God" through spiritual disciples and "Connect with Neighbor" through time and prayers? What was your experience? What impact has it had on your faith? Reveille staff will be sharing their experiences through The Window over the next few months and they invite you to join them. Submit your reflection to Katie B. Anthony. For more information on the 2013 Lenten Challenge, see the purple "Path to Serve" brochure found in the welcome center or narthex.

Summer Sunday School

Recruitment for Children's Ministries

School's out for the summer. But, not Sunday School at Reveille UMC. The children at Reveille are eager to learn from their church family this summer. For the 13 weeks of summer, beginning Sunday, June 2 and running through Sunday, August 25, we will thank our teachers who teach the entire school year with a well-deserved summer break. Please prayerfully consider volunteering to help teach for one Sunday this summer. We will combine the following classes: 2's/3's/Pre-K, grades K and 1, grades 2-5. We need two teachers for each class each week. Curriculum is provided for the younger ages from 2-year-olds through first grade. Grades 2 - 5 will be focusing on "Connecting with God, Connecting with Neighbor." These grades will hear from members of our congregation of all ages who are willing to share about their faith journey, a mission trip that had an impact on their life, or what a difference Reveille has made in their life. We invite every member to prayerfully consider where they can serve. Please let Lori Epps, Director of Children's Ministries know where you would like to serve.

Fat Tuesday Pancake Supper

Note of Appreciation

Reveille Men's Prayer Breakfast would like to thank all who supported our Fat Tuesday Pancake Supper. With your voluntary donations, we were able to add $416 to the Feeding the Homeless ministry. Mark your calendars for next year's pancake supper event.
