OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES

Habitat for Humanity

Join us as we build on our blessings! As part of our summer of service, Reveille United Methodist Church is sponsoring the entire build of a home for a single mother and her children in the Swansboro area through Habitat for Humanity from July-November. We are looking for volunteers of all ages and skills to help build the home and participate in non-build projects such as landscaping, taking photos at the site, handing out water and providing lunch to volunteers, painting flower boxes for the home and various other projects. There will be plenty of opportunities to use your spiritual gifts. If you are interested in this project, please sign up on the bulletin board across from the children's library by March 31. If you have questions, please email co-champions Abby Baker and Heather MacIver.

Reveille Welcomes Co-Champions for

Friends of the Homeless Bag Lunch Ministry

Friends of the Homeless is an organization that has been serving the Richmond area since 1986 with leadership from Shawnee Hansen. I encourage you to visit the Friends of the Homeless website to read about Shawnee's inspiring story. Reveille UMC has been involved in serving with both the bag lunch ministry and the hot meal ministry with Friends of the Homeless for many years. Kay Craven, Joanna Tilley and Mary Jane Walls serve as our champions for the hot meals ministry. As many of you know, the Outreach committee put out a plea for champions for the bag lunch ministry over the last several months as well as support for this ministry. Thank you to everyone who has expressed an interest in helping with this outreach through donating items, donating time, or donating money. We appreciate your support. Randy Bishop and Connie Wright have stepped up to be our new co-champions of The Friends of the Homeless Bag Lunch Ministry. Please join me in welcoming them! They will be heading up this outreach ministry beginning this month on Sunday, March 24. The packing times will remain from 10:30 - 11:00 am in the welcome center. If you are interested in helping provide any of the items needed on a monthly basis please contact Randy Bishop or Connie Wright. This ministry is now an intergenerational outreach that will involve our entire congregation.

 LENTEN WEDNESDAYS

Come Hear Guest Preachers at

the Lenten Worship Service

Woodlake United Methodist Lead Pastor, Rev. Peter Moon continued the Lenten worship service on February 27. After reading the story of Peter walking on water towards Jesus, he challenged the congregation to focus their attention on Christ during Lent and not get distracted by the wind and the waves in the world around us. He gave worship, prayer and other spiritual disciplines as ways to help us focus our passion on Christ. Throughout Lent, guest preachers from the Richmond District will continue to share a Lenten message during the Wednesday Lent worship services held in the chapel following the Wonderful Wednesday dinner. The service will start at 7:00 pm.

Following is the remaining schedule for the Wednesday Lenten Worship Services:

March 6 - Reverend Rachel May

March 13 - Reverend Lee Sheaffer

March 20 - Reverend Beth Givens

Children are invited to Journey to Jerusalem

Youth News

As the old saying goes, "You can choose your friends, but you can't choose your relatives." For most people, whether by birth or adoption, we came into our families by no choice of our own. Yet these are the people we spend the most time with, the ones who are always in the bathroom when we are running late in the mornings; the ones who are always hogging the computer or the television or choosing our least favorite food for dinner. Yet love starts at home, with those we see most often. This Sunday night at youth group, we will continue our Lenten study to learn how the "outflow" of God's love touches our friends and family.

The schedule for the evening is as follows:

4:30 pm - Middle school youth group/high school choir

     5:30 pm - Dinner ($3)

6:00 pm - High school youth group/middle school choir

Small Groups: Reveille's youth have an opportunity this spring to gather during the week for study and reflection. Plans are underway to develop small groups for middle school girls, middle school boys, high school girls and high school boys. Times and locations are in the planning stages, but if you are interested in participating in a small group experience, contact Dwayne.

This year we will have several hands-on mission activities that your family can participate in as well. We will meet in the fellowship hall to begin our time together. Don't forget to bring your Easter egg basket for the hunt.

American Youth Harp Ensemble

We are honored to have a return visit from the American Youth Harp Ensemble, this time in collaboration with The Virginia Choristers, in concert at Reveille on Saturday, March 23, at 3:00 pm in our sanctuary. This outstanding harp ensemble will be joined by the Parish Girl and Boy Choirs of Saint Bridget Catholic Church in one of four preview concerts for their Lincoln Center Concert Tour. Please mark your calendars - you will not want to miss this internationally-acclaimed group, based in "our own backyard!" For more information, visit www.harpensemble.org.

2013 Lent and Easter Offering

Our 2013 Lent and Easter offering will purchase Easter lilies to adorn all of our worship spaces on Easter Sunday, as well as benefit the One Great Hour of Sharing offering. A sufficient number of lilies needed to decorate for all of our Easter worship services will be purchased and the remaining money will be directed to One Great Hour of Sharing.

The One Great Hour of Sharing offering provides for the administrative costs of United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR) so that 100% of the donations you give to the special offerings for disaster relief will be used for relief efforts and not for administrative costs.

Donations to this offering may be in any amount and may be made in honor of or in memory of someone, if you wish. To have your donation acknowledged in the Easter (March 31) printout of these gifts, be sure to return your completed lavender order form with your check or cash no later than Sunday, March 24. The form and donation should be put in the offering plate or basket or sent to the church office. The form may be printed here or picked up in the narthex, welcome center, fellowship hall or church office.

Easter lilies may be removed from the fellowship hall following the 9:30 am service and from the remaining spaces following the 11:00 am worship service. The church will be closed on the Monday after Easter, and all remaining lilies will be discarded on Tuesday morning, April 2. If you wish to take a lily to a homebound member or for yourself, please take it with you on Easter Sunday.

Reflection on Connecting with God and Neighbor

Anne Stratton, Administrative Manager retiring at the end of March, reflects on the ways she has connected with God and Neighbor during her time here at Reveille UMC.

Over the past 10 years, I have been a Stephen Minister in the Reveille Stephen Ministry program. I have learned so many aspects of connecting with people who need a caregiver, of being a listener, of praying with others and of trying to help them bring peace in their lives. I can reflect on the love and faith that my care-receivers have felt from God as they have traveled through their situations. I believe we have a responsibility to look back on where we have been in life with happy and trying experiences and then pass on to others what we have learned so they can have a little easier road in times of trouble and in times of great happiness.

In my journey, I have found that it is so important to laugh and to find something positive in situations. When my parents were in situations that none of us ever want to be in, and in facilities that we hope we will never be in, I would laugh at small things that happened. I had to laugh in order to keep myself together. The nurses (neighbors) would always enjoy a good laugh also and it would brighten up their day.

God has taught me how to listen and pay attention when he taps me on the shoulder. He has made me more aware of my surroundings and so much of that has come from my time at Reveille. I feel so blessed to have spent so much time here, with you and with God as my teacher.

Anne Stratton, Administrative Manager

Have you taken the 2013 Lenten Challenge to "Connect with God" through spiritual disciples and "Connect with Neighbor" through time and prayers? What was your experience? What impact has it had on your faith? Reveille staff will be sharing their experiences through The Window over the next few months and they invite you to join them. Submit your reflection to  Katie B. Anthony. For more information on the 2013 Lenten Challenge, see the purple "Path to Serve" brochure found in the welcome center or narthex.
