Reveille Cares

Thank you to everyone who has purchased a KrogerCares card from our youth ministry. In the last two months, we have received $810.25 from Kroger. With your support, we could earn as much as $5,000 or more for youth missions each year, just because you are buying groceries you would buy anyway.

If you do not yet have a KrogerCares card, please contact Dwayne in the church office. The cards cost $5, and already have a $5 balance. Go to customer service or the register in Kroger, add up to $500 to your card (using cash, check or credit card) and every time you add money, Reveille receives 5%. The more money you add, the more we receive. The cards expire only if they have no balance for over 60 days, so this fundraiser lasts as long as you use it.

Again, thank you for this money which supports our youth and their mission trips. Through the KrogerCares program, you show that you care about our service to others.

Praise for the Cornell University Glee Club

"This is the best performance we have ever hosted here at Reveille," said one long-time member. "Seeing the guys reminded me of home," remarked one young Cornell alumna, who brought a friend to the concert. Glenn Crone, who graduated from Cornell University in 1953, sat in the front pew with fellow alumnus Bob Warwick so they could "watch the expressiveness of the young men" when they sang. "I felt like I was being bathed in heavenly sound all night!" said Cathy Armistead, Reveille's director of music. "I hope they come again next year," said Suzanne Nyfeler, echoing the sentiments of many other concert-goers.

The 400-plus people who packed Reveille's sanctuary on January 15 enjoyed the exquisite tones of the 53-member all-male Cornell University Glee Club, and the a cappella sub-group "The Hangovers," thanks largely to the efforts of Reveille member and Cornell alumnus Gary Thompson. Gary invited the club to visit Reveille as part of its "For Friendship, For You" Southeast Tour.

The club's director, John Rowehl, praised the acoustics of the space. "When I asked the guys which numbers in our repertoire they wanted to sing for you, they said, 'all of them,' because this is such a great space in which to sing." The group did end up singing nearly all of their selections, treating the 90 people who attended the pre-concert dinner to Thomas Tallis' If Ye Love Me and singing a couple of numbers during the reception afterward.

Glenda and Danielle Lewis talked with some of the members at the reception and recalled their enthusiasm for singing, their appreciation for the publicity, which led to one of their largest audiences on tour, and that no matter where they sing, there always seems to be an alumnus of Cornell in attendance. As is the custom, the club invited former Cornell singers present at this concert to join them for the alma mater. If you missed this performance, don't worry: They WILL return!
