The Service of Remembrance:

Help for the Holidays

Holidays can be difficult for those coping with grief and loss. Our Service of Remembrance candle annual Service of Remembrance will be held this Sunday, December 9 at 3:00 pm in the chapel. We will remember our loved ones through the lighting of candles and the reading of names. We will sing hymns, pray, read scripture and have a short meditation to bring us hope, comfort and strength. As the French poet Paul Claudel said, "Jesus did not come to explain away suffering or remove it. He came to fill it with his presence."

No matter what your grief or however long you have borne it, we invite you to join us.

Year-End Giving

Are you planning to make donations to Reveille in late December to claim on your 2012 income tax return? If the answer is yes, following is what you need to know:

  • Donations must be delivered or mailed and postmarked on or by December 31, 2012 in order to claim a charitable contribution deduction for 2012. The office will close at 4:30 pm.
  • Checks that are placed in the church offering during the first worship service in 2013 will not qualify for a charitable contribution deduction in 2012, even if the check is predated to 2012 or was actually written in 2012.
  • Checks that are written, mailed, and postmarked in 2012 will be deductible in 2012, though they are not received by Reveille until 2013.

If you have questions, please call Glynis Holcomb, financial manager, 359-6041, ext. 118.

Your Grocery Shopping Supports Youth Missions

If the cha-ching of the supermarket cash register frustrates you each week, let your spending make a difference. Reveille's youth are offering Kroger Cares cards. These $5 gift cards function like debit cards. You purchase one for $5 from Reveille. Take it to the customer service desk at Kroger and add up to $500 to the card (using cash or a credit or debit card). Then use the card to purchase your groceries. Each time you recharge your card by adding more money, Reveille's youth mission fund gets 5% of the total - money that will support our youth mission trips. The more you spend, the more Reveille receives. It's a win-win situation.

Kroger Cares cards will be available in the welcome center during Glorious Gifts on December 9 and 16. In addition, you may purchase a card from Dwayne Stinson in the church office. If you have questions, please email Dwayne or call him at 359-6041, ext. 122.
