EPA Proposed Rule Will Affect Many Categories of Solid Fuel Burning Products
Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released the formal draft of their revisions to the New Source Performance Standards for Wood Heaters (NSPS). The proposal will be formally published in the Federal Register later this month. Publication in the Federal Register will begin the formal comment period for which HPBA has been preparing over the last four years. The rule contains many potential changes to how the industry will do business and how wood burning products are to be certified. This proposal will impact all woodstoves, pellet stoves, and hydronic heaters made in the future.
During the coming months, HPBA will holding meetings for manufacturers, by Sections, to review the industry position and its comments on the matter. HPBA also has an offer from the Small Business Adminstration to co-sponsor a webinar on how manufacturers can provide comments. That session will be scheduled soon. A fact sheet on the proposal is located on the website. HPBA does urge its members, however, to download and read the entire document. The complete proposal can be accessed at the website.
Retailers and reps will be able to learn more about this package at the special education session that will be at HPBExpo on Friday, March 7. In the meantime, HPBA will keep its members up to date on any further developments.
