Merv Conn Dies After Surgery

Merv Conn, president of Mallin Casual Furniture, died on Thursday, February 14, of complications from surgery that was strictly preventive.

A memorial service will be held February 20 at 11am at Temple Adat Elohim, 2420 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks, California.

Muscatine, IA - HNI Corp. announced fourth quarter sales of  $527.5 million and net income of $17.6 million for the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, 2012. For fiscal year 2012, the corporation reported sales of $2.0 billion, a 9.3 percent increase from prior year, and net income of $49.0 million, a 6.5 percent increase from prior year.

Fourth quarter and full-year sales for the hearth products segment increased $7.3 million or 7.5 percent, and $11.3 million or 3.7 percent, respectively. These increases were driven by increases in the new construction channel partially offset by decreases in the remodel/retrofit channel.

Fourth quarter and full-year operating profit increased $6.0 or 63.6 percent, and $11.7 million or 79.5 percent, respectively. The corporation estimates sales will be flat to down five percent in the first quarter over the same period in the prior year.

Furniture Brands International
St. Louis, MO - Furniture Brands International announced that net sales for the fourth quarter ending Dec. 29, 2012 were $264.0 million compared to $255.5 million for the three months ended Dec. 31, 2011, an increase of $8.5 million, or 3.3 percent. Fourth quarter same-store sales at the 45 Thomasville stores that the company has owed for more than 15 months were up 4.8 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2011 when same-store sales decreased by 4.0 percent.

For the year ended Dec. 29, 2012 total revenue decreased 3.2 percent to $1.07 billion from $1.11 billion in 2011. Full year same-store sales at the 45 Thomasville stores decreased 2.1 percent compared to 2011 when same-store sales increased by 6.3 percent.
