Aidan bedbed 1
sleep safe bedbed Eric and I found this bed in the Exceptional Parent magazine and Aidan has been in it for around 2 years. Aidan moves around on his stomach during the night and we needed a bed that he would not get caught in between the mattress and the side of the bed or railing. We are very happy with this bed! The mattress fits tight up next to the sides. The sides fold up and down to make it easier to get him in and out and also for changing. We also love that we can see through the sides to check on him when he is napping without disturbing him. It is completely enclosed so there is no danger of him falling out yet with the "windows" in the side it feels more open and he can see out! The top and bottom of the bed can incline when he is having respiratory issues and the bed is also on wheels. I actually can not think of any cons to this particular bed. It comes in a twin or full size and the mattress can be wiped off in case it gets wet.

St. Patrick's Day Shortbread
Buttery shortbread, a layer of toffee and chocolate topping make these cookie bars a favorite sweet among families in Ireland. Invite your kids to help make a batch for a special St. Patrick's Day snack.

Ingredients
3/4 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 14-oz. can sweetened condensed milk
2 tbsp. light corn syrup
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 6-oz. bag of chocolate chips

Instructions
Shortbread: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar. Stir in the flour until well mixed. Press the batter into a 9-inch square pan (a good job for kids). Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the edges are golden brown. Let cool.

Toffee: Melt the 1/2 cup of butter in a heavy saucepan over medium heat. Add the brown sugar, condensed milk and corn syrup, and bring the mixture to a boil. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring continually. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Pour over the cooled shortbread.
Topping: Melt the chocolate chips in a double boiler or a microwave oven. Stir until smooth. Pour over the cooled toffee. Cut into 16 squares.

Fundraising Efforts

Thanks to Elizabeth Longman for her great idea to have a Superbowl pool!  It was such a great idea, Gretchen got in on the act as well and now $1000.00 is being donated to PKS Kids in Anthony's and Simon's names.  Next year let's try for 5 or more families to do the pool!

The Knights of Columbus council #5999 has made their third donation to PKS Kids.  We have been fortunate to receive more than $3000.00 from the KofC Tootsie Roll drive in Marshall, MI.

Featured Sweetheart
Simon Peters is a happy 5 year old who lives in Michigan with his mom and dad, his brother and three sisters.
Simon has severe delays and is not yet sitting up, bearing weight or playing with toys, but he will brighten anyone's day with his smiles!  He loves to listen to music and go swimming and just recently learned to drink from a straw.  He is well loved by his family and loves to snuggle with his Papa and Grandma.

Hi, this is Simon's sister Maddy,
I'm writing to tell you all about what Simon has been doing.  Well first I love Simon and now when people ask me what PKS is I know what to tell them.  In March my mom is coming to my school to talk about PKS.  Simon has accomplished many things.  If you hold him up he will lock his knees and he is drinking out of a strawe.  I'm excited for my mom to come with Simon because more people will know what PKS is so then I can explain it more carefully.  That's all I have to say, bye! Maddy and Simon
Thanks for your continued support of PKS Kids!

Sincerely,
PKS Kids Board of Directors
