Committed to battle, the group joins Liam engaging the pirates. Except for Aoth, who moves to try and glimpse the Orogs by stealthily climbing a stalagmite.
12 enraged Orogs crash into the group and the pirates. Quickly the Pirates fall, taking the brunt of their initial fury. Lance, a sword for hire, quickly responds to Liams threat of death if he runs. In a moment he goes from Pirate to Adventurer. Fighting for his life, literally, he stands between Liam and the Orogs. Although he is unarmored, he weilds his greatsword with a deft hand. Splitting his foes open as quickly as they charged in.
Elan is fending off 2 Orogs alone when a third moves to surround her, little did the deep orc know Aoth waited in the shadows. Aoth accuratly and brutally stabs the Orog, as well as his bretheren who mistakenly moved to close. Both near death, but deeply enraged, they turn their attentions to Aoth. Though nimble, Aoth is no match against these experienced barbarians in a straight fight.
As isbjorn watches his comrade fall he can't help but give into his own rage, immediately cutting down the Orogs that were driving him toward the river. As the last Orog falls to FinSlayer, Elan's trusted longsword, so does Isbjorn. His rage carried him just far enough to see victory. Liam, elated from battle, channels the power of Tempus into Aoth and Isbjorn's limp bodies. Their wounds close and their lungs fill with the dank air of the underdark.
Fearing more Orogs were near, the group heads for the safety of the caravan. Still a few minutes away, Aoth's keen senses alert him to the sounds of battle ahead. Aoth stops the group, exclaiming the caravan is being attacked. He further instructs his friends to allow him the chance to scout ahead. Weary from the previous encounter they agree.
As is often the case, little is known about what Aoth does when he sneaks off. The group waits in dark silence for several minutes. The sound of a lone runner causes them conern, but it is only Aoth returning to the group. He describes a massive fight that has left only Ayanna, Mistress Synith, her Dwarves, and Derek among the living. Upon returning to the caravan there is discussion on how to continue, Ayanna gives Aoth the choice on whether they fight or flee. The group is dumbfounded she would default to his judgement, even more puzzeling is her comment about him slaying the Orog Chief! Had he even been gone that long?!
Deciding to flee they manage to save a few others in just 3 wagons. Ayanna leads on foot, Mistress Synith behind her, The Group and survivers next, with Aoth & Derek in the last wagon. Ayanna delivers news that the horses on the last two wagons won't last much longer. She will give Mistress Synith instructions to make it out on their own while she stays behind to aid everyone else. She returns to the lead wagon. After hearing this news, Aoth leaps to their wagon with a proposition. He explains that Derek wants the groups help in stopping Mistress Synith. He is weak, but he can stop her wagon if they group can overpower her and her guards.
The group agrees, but only if they can have the cargo she carries. A deal is reached and a battle begins. Although Mistress Synith escapes, Ayanna is convinced to stay out of the tussle thanks to Aoth's quick thiking and Elan's knack for diplomacy. The dwarves are slain, and the cargo is captured. In each casket is an unconcious humanoid. A female Halfling, Male Drow, Female Avariel, and the Half-Elf Bard that Liam has been so determined to rescue.
Ayanna leads the group, as promised, to Waterdeep. It is obvious that she is conflicted about what had transpired. The group both adds to insult while trying to explain the situation. No one feels sure about how things are left, Sylvan Elves have always been so hard to read. Ayanna disappears back into the dark as the group heads up, and into the city.
Lance provides some useful direction and advice that delivers the group to the Inn that Ayanna recommended. They now rest safe and sound in a very nice communal room at the Inn of the 3 Sirens. This great room sits on the 5th floor of the structure. It takes a full half the floor, windows on 3 sides. There is a good view of a market square on one side and the port from the opposite. The last shows a busy street. |
