Auntie Wooly Says:
Auntie

Hello, Dahlings!

Stash. We all have it. We all love it. But sometimes we feel just a wee bit guilty about having it because we really want that new yarn.

Now, your Auntie Woolie doesn't get bothered by guilt over stash, after committing herself to SABLE - Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy. (It's more than a good idea, it's a way of life!)

If you find yourself troubled by this, I'd suggest trying ways to divest yourself of old stash that you're just not as excited about anymore. Try Craig's List, or Etsy, or your local bulletin board. You just never now who might be interested in that yarn in that box you're just not going to use.

The best part, is you end up with a little cash - to invest in more yarn! Now how great is that?

Until next time... Happy Stitching, My Dears!

Auntie W.

Sarah Hatton

Sarah Hatton of Rowan Yarns is coming Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26

In a delightful last-minute way, we were given the opportunity to host Sarah Hatton, a UK based designer for Rowan Yarns, at the Ball & Skein! Kris has taken a class with her and found her delightful. As a matter of fact, on the way home from TNNA in Indianapolis we ran into Sarah at the airport, knitting of course, waiting for her flight back to the UK.

She'll be teaching a class on Finishing Techniques on Friday evening the 25th from 4 - 7PM.

Then on Saturday the 26th from 1 - 4, she'll be here doing book signings and will be presenting a trunk show of her beautiful designs.

July 4th in Cambria!

The 4th is a big deal in our little town with music and fun events all day at Shamel Park, which is on Moonstone Beach. The live music starts at Noon, with Waiter & Waitress races at 1PM, and a Pie Eating contest at 2PM. The festivities run all day until 9PM when we have fireworks over the Ocean on Moonstone Beach.

The swimming pool opens at 1PM and will be open all day. In addition, the town trolly will run around town all day!

Free Parking, Free Admission, come join us for the 4th.

And yes, the shop will be open!

 Rewya Bloom

Reywa CalthaThis beautiful lace weight yarn from our friends at Reywa is called Bloom. A very popular lace weight for us, this yarn is 50% Yak Down, 50% Silk.

Not only is this a delightful yarn to work with, but Rewya means "hope" in Tibetan. Reywa is dedicated to using their profits to provide educational sponsorship to children of impoverished Tibetan families.

Ask us for this beautiful pattern, designed by Heather Zoppetti for Reywa Fibers that uses 2 skeins of Bloom. The pattern is free with your purchase of the yarn. And, if your color is sold out right now, go ahead and order it, we'll bring it in for you right away!

Knitting for the Troops
Much as we don't like to think about it, we in the US still have many young men and women all over the world serving our country in the Armed Services. One thing we as knitters and crocheters can do is to make up a beanie or scarf for them. The pattern is free and we're a drop point for them. Even if, for some reason, your work doesn't meet with the military's needs they'll find a home in a shelter, a hospital, or any place they can be of use to those less fortunate than ourselves.

The yarn has to be natural fibers, no acrylics. Wool is preferred, wool alpaca is also fine. They don't have to be machine washable.
Some yarns that have always worked well for us are:

Rowan Creative Focus Worsted - a wool alpaca blend, not machine washable.

Rowan Pure Wool Worsted - a 100% wool that is also machine washable.

Manos Maxima - a Single-ply worsted weight merino in a huge range of kettle dyed colors. not machine washable.

They make great simple, fast beanies as well for any occasion!

Something a little different

Something's AfootCome see a different side of Oz as he performs as part of the cast in the musical murder mystery "Something's Afoot" at the Cambria Center for the Arts Theater in August. The play is a wonderful and funny send-up of every British mystery you've ever seen. Fun for all, the play will run every Friday and Saturday night at 7PM and every Sunday at 3PM at the theater, located at 1350 Main St in Cambria.

You'll learn the answer to the eternal question, "Did the butler do it?"
