Auntie Wooly Says:
Auntie

Hello, Dahlings!

In my travels, I'm, of course, always looking for fellow fiber fans. While sharing some libations and knitting with some lovely people from England, I learned that the idea of knitting "In the Round", which is so prevalent here in the US, is considered somewhat of a "fad" by our neighbors in the UK.

In the US it's somewhat common, and increasingly so, to find sweater patterns worked in one piece in the round. One advantage of this method makes for a simpler shape and faster finishing as there are little to no seams involved.

It seems it's far more common in England to knit pieces of the sweater flat on single point needles and then seam. An advantage to this method is it can give you much more structure as a seamed garment can be stronger and more resistant to stretching than a garment knit all in one piece with no seams.

It's always interesting to learn how our fellow knitters and crocheters apply ideas to creating fabric and garments.

Until next time... Happy Stitching, My Dears!

Colinette at TNNA
(left to right - Sam, Oz, and Kris at TNNA)

Please join us at our Open House on Saturday May 17 from 4 - 7PM with our very special guests from Colinette Yarns!

Colinette is coming!! Yes, we told you that Sam, her son, is coming, but he just let us know that he will be joined by his mother, Colinette!

It's been years since she's been out here, and we're so grateful that she's choosing to come to our little town to share a little about her life.

That evening, we'll have some light refreshments, some local wines and beer, and some fun surprises. We'll also have giveaways throughout the evening.

As if that weren't enough, we'll have some music courtesy of our own Oz Barron!

So please join us, bring your friends, and help us celebrate two years in our 'new' expanded location and hear stories from one of the original independent hand-dyers, Colinette!

Our address is  4210 Bridge Street, but we face Main St. That's because the address of the building is Bridge Street.

So come on in, either from the Main Street entrance, or the door facing the parking lot next to the building and help us celebrate two wonderful years in our "new" location!

If you weren't sure - this is a free event.

Addi Click Addi Click Price increases

It's been 7 years since there was a price increase on Addi needles. They've been telling us for the last two years to expect a price increase as the cost of manufacturing has increased. We were amazed it took this long but that day has arrived. Addi sets (and many of the individual needles) are going up slightly in price, with the exception of the Bamboo Naturas. If you were on the fence, now is the time to get your 'Click' set. It's a small price increase, but every dollar counts, so why not get them today!

Click here to see all the Addi 'Click' sets

Click is their brand of interchangeable needles. All of them share the unique, spring-loaded connection that offers a smooth, snag-free join that  does not come apart while you knit. No additional tools are needed to secure the cables. All Addi sets, like their individual needles, are made in Germany to exacting standards and offer a lifetime warranty against manufacturers defects. In the unlikely event your needle has a defect, you can get it replaced by your friendly local Authorized Addi retailer, like us!

Addi offers 4 Click sets. All the cables and tips are interchangeable between them all, so if you have more than one set your options keep multiplying. None of the sets come with a US 10.5, but tips from a US 4 to a US 19 are available as accessories. We try to stock all the available accessories. If we don't have them in stock, we'll gladly order it for you.

The Basic was their first interchangeable set. It offers the traditional nickel-plated Turbo tips from a US 4 to a US 15. It comes with 24", 32", and 40" cables, a connector to turn your cable into a stitch holder and a needle gauge. It comes in a black case. This set gives you the widest variety of needles sizes for the price. Currently at 169.95, as of Monday May 19 these will be $180

The Long Tip Lace set offers the sharper nickel-plated Lace or "Rocket" tips from a US 4 to a US 11. It comes with 24", 32", and 40" cables, a connector to turn your cable into a stitch holder and a needle gauge. This comes in a pink case. Currently at 169.95, as of Monday May 19 these will be $180

The Natura set offers Bamboo tips from a US 4 to a US 11. It comes with 24", 32", and 40" cables, a connector to turn your cable into a stitch holder and a needle gauge. This set comes in a green case. The price of the Bamboo needles aren't really changing. Currently at 179.95, as of Monday May 19 these will be $180

The Short-tip Lace set offers the sharper nickel-plated Lace or "Rocket" tips from a US 4 to a US 11. This is called the Short-tip set because the tips are shorter, allowing you to have a set that offers a 16" cable. It comes with 16", 20", 24", 32", and 40" cables, a connector to turn your cable into a stitch holder and a needle gauge. It comes in a dark brown case.
Currently at 169.95, as of Monday May 19 these will be $180

  Crochet Alchemy Cowl

Alchemy LustWe used Alchemy Lust for this project. We just love this yarn, and wanted to find a pattern that would show off the yarn and those amazing Alchemy colors. We also realized it had been awhile since we had done anything with crochet, so this month we're featuring one of our latest yarns in a simple, yet beautiful cowl that's soft on your skin and a delight to wear.

Look at the way the dye pattern falls on this cowl. We just love the patterning that naturally occurs.

Speaking of the dyes, Gina Wilde, founder and creative director of Alchemy Yarns, uses no heavy metal mordants in her dyes. They're all derived from natural materials and are not acid based dyes. As a matter of fact, the PH of her dyes is the same as water.

The yarns are then air dried in the golden California sun at their farm in Sonoma county, north of San Francisco.

Lust, the yarn we're featuring today, is a soft, beautiful fingering weight yarn that is 70% wool, 30% silk. At 288 yards per 53 gram skein, you get very good yardage in a premium yarn.

When you're done with your cowl, send us a picture so we can share your beautiful work!
