The first ever SLO Yarn Crawl is all done. We had a wonderful time, and based on the comments and happy faces we saw - so did everybody that attended! We'd also like to send out a big hello to everyone that signed up for our e-mail list at the crawl! Thank you so much for coming, and we hope you'll like our little newsletter.

The winners have all been contacted, so if you didn't hear from us, we're sorry, you didn't win the grand prize, but we do hope you all had a great weekend at the Ball & Skein, where everyone is a winner!

Our two friends Maridee and Barbra from the L.A. area have embarked on a fun journey. They've opened a Mobile Yarn store! Yes, like the food trucks we see in so many places, Meridee and Barbra created this exciting adventure and we wanted to share it with you. We're pleased to announce they'll be parked at the shop on Saturday October 19. Same hours as us, 10AM to 5PM. Stop by, meet these intrepid young women, and have some fun in Cambria!

Gwen Weekend Away February 7 - 9, 2014
Color. We all love it. Some of us struggle with color while others seem to swim in it effortlessly. One thing we all agree on is we love beautiful color in our knitting. And using color can be much easier than you think.

This new class from Gwen is for knitters of all levels. Gwen freely admits, much to other's surprise, to struggling with color most of her life. But her love of learning and knitting brought her to learn about color as well as how to use it in her knitting. Her motto is, "If I can do it, so can you!" And with the things you'll learn in this class, you will!

In this class, we'll explore color and talk about color theory in simple accessible terms. We'll experiment using colors in a variety of yarns. We'll see how some fibers take the dye differently and how different colors of different yarns behave in sometimes unexpected ways.  We'll also address various techniques for using color that will allow knitters of all abilities to take advantage of color work in their knitting. As always, the class will be filled with tips and techniques from one of the most entertaining and gifted teachers in the business.

So, whether you're a knitter that has only knit simple scarves or cowls, or you just finished your first Kaffe Fassett sweater, there will be plenty in this class for you!

Prerequisites: You'll need to be able to knit, purl, cast-on and bind-off without assistance. You should also be able to read simple knitting patterns. Must be willing to learn something new that might change your perception of the world around you!

Frog Tree Peru Join us and Cat Bordhi in Peru!
Many of us love Alpaca, much of which comes from Peru. Many of us have admired the amazing colors and patterns of traditional Peruvian textiles, both knitted and woven. This is a great opportunity to learn more about this amazing land and the people that live there.

We're excited to bring you on a group trip to Peru with Jim Petkiewicz of Frog Tree Yarns and Community Links International for 10 days beginning on Tuesday March 13, 2014 through Sunday March 23.

As if 10 days in Peru led by someone that knows the area and people so well wasn't enough, we'll be joined by the one and only Cat Bordhi!

Alchemy Pagoda Scarf Free Pattern!
Looking for another fun, simple to knit pattern?

Try this one, knitted from one skein of California's own Alchemy Pagoda, a lovely hand-dyed 100% silk yarn with just enough boucl texture to make it not only beautiful, but not as slippery as many silk yarns can be. Knits fast on US 7s.

This yarn looks great in crochet as well! Use an 'H' hook, chain 18 stitches, and just single crochet for a fast, simple scarf with plenty of drape. And, since it's silk, you won't have to worry about any wool allergies!.
