Auntie Wooly Says:
Auntie
Dahlings!

It's always so wonderful to hear from all the people that come in and share their stories. We fiber fans are from all walks of life and from all over the world.  It truly is a community of people that like to share ideas and techniques. We also share our ups and downs.

It's also true it's hard to stay down when one has some lovely yarn in our hands. The anticipation of what to do with it, of patiently winding that first ball, feeling the texture of the fiber as we dream of the enjoyment we'll get of working with the yarn. We look forward to the joy of wearing it, or as is so often the case, of giving it away.

Being a part of this larger community has so many rewards, doesn't it?

Until next time... Happy Stitching, My Dears!

Schedule
We're back from a fantastic trip to Long Beach for TNNA, one of the two major trade shows we attend.

It was a fun time, lots of walking, lots of meetings, lots of everything! The pic on the left is the schedule posted on the floor showing our own Oz Barron teaching along with a 'Who's Who" of the fiber world! We're so proud and honored to be in that company.

Where to start? Colinette Well, on the right is Kris with the one and only Colinette! They didn't have a booth, but Colinette had contacted us before the show to say she'd be there, so we got to meet up with her for a few minutes. Lovely Lady, and so much fun to meet the person at the forefront of the Independant Hand-dyed industry.
Manos Patterns
Even though we had just seen them here in the shop before TNNA, it was so great to see the new patterns from our friends at Manos. Such beautiful things, some lovely tops, and a great color-work scarf made from Manos Lace held triple. Very simple, so effective and all in stock now.

Mira of Baah Another fun visit was with Mira of Baah yarns. Such a pleasant person and it turns out she and her husband honeymooned in Cambria! No wonder this wonderful yarn is such a hit with us. She said she developed her machine washable yarn with such a tight twist as she wanted something durable that she could actually use on a day to day basis but more comfortable to knit with all day than something like Hemp or Linen. New colors coming soon!

Black Pearl Also under the category of "Coming Soon" is a SMALL supply of the Yarn Sisters "Black Pearl". this time in colors! This yarn has been very hard to get but now in addition to white, it will be available in the beautiful five colors pictured on the left. It's 50% Pearls (Yes, really pearls!) and 50% Tencel. 8 sts to the inch, and just a delight to work with. About 406 yards on a 100 gram skein. It sold out quickly last time, so contact us today if you want to be on the list!

In other fabulous finds - Cashmere and Mink, In Stock Now! The mink is from animals raised for their fur not their pelts so they're not killed, they are shaved. We don't know if they get little knitted sweaters or not, but we like to think so.

The new palette from Alchemy is also on its way. The theme is "The Wild West" and it comprises 20 new colors! We think you'll love it. We ordered every color of the palette so you can enjoy these new colors from Alchemy.

There are so many other things and events coming. We're bursting to tell you about them, but we want to make sure we have all the details before we do. Be sure to check our Facebook page (Like us while you're there!) as well as our web site to see the latest news.

Reversible Scarves Reversible Scarves #1!
One of the wonderful things out of TNNA was the republication of one of our favorite new books by a dear friend - Audrey Knight. It was an even better surprise when we found out Audrey's book was the #1 selling book at TNNA! We are so happy to have it back in the shop.

In addition, Audrey will be gracing us with another Trunk show from March 8 in the afternoon through March 17 and Signing on Saturday March 16 and Sunday March 17 from 12 - 3.

The book has 30 patterns of reversible scarves for knitters of all abilities and instructions for how to turn your scarf into a wrap. We just love it here at the shop and know you will too.

If you can't make it into the shop, just order it, let us know you'd like a signed copy, and we'll have Audrey sign it for you before we send it out!

Center for Knit and Crochet Industry News
TNNA is the largest trade organization for the Needle Arts in the world. That means it's more than just seeing cool new products and meeting wonderful people, as much fun as that is. It's also about promoting our industry and our art and craft to the world at large, so we also attend meetings for retailers, teachers, and various industry groups. There are two things happening in the industry that are in part sponsored by shops such as ours that we'd like to share with you.

One is the creation of a Knit and Crochet Museum, to be called the Center for Knit and Crochet. The Center for Knit and Crochet, Inc. was established in November, 2012 in Madison, WI, with support from the Wisconsin Historical Society and TNNA's Yarn Group (That's us!). Still in the development stages, the Center's goals are to create a space, initially on the web, dedicated to knitting and crochet preservation, scholarship, and public education.

We're so excited to be a small part of this. We feel this is long overdue for knitters and crocheters to have a place dedicated to the long, interesting history of our beloved art form. For more information, head to their web site at http://knittingheritagemuseum.wordpress.com

Coral Reef The Crochet Coral Reef is another project that runs the world over. TNNA, the folks at Prism Yarns, and many, many others worked to create a huge reef in St Petersburg, FL. The information at the site is older as the reef has a new home in St Petersburg for the next couple of years where thousands of people will get to see some amazing things one can do with yarn and a crochet hook.

The good people from Florida brought a small piece of the reef with them so we could all admire it. That's a small part of it on the right, and believe us, it was amazing!

Symphony Shawl Aura and the Symphony Shawl
Have you ever knitted with Trendsetter Aura? What a fun yarn. Soft, just the right amount of sparkle, and completely 'Itch-Free' as it's 100% Nylon!

One of our favorite ways to use Aura is by knitting a very simple, triangular shawl on US 11s. It's on big needles, so it knits fast! It's also a very simple triangle. You're simply casting on 3, slipping the first stitch, doing a YO, and knitting to the end of the row. For only 13.50, a little bit of fun knitting time, and you have a beautiful shawl. Make them in a variety of colors and you'll be the fashion hit of the knitting group!

Why is it called the Symphony Shawl? One of our dear customers makes one for all the soloists in the San Luis Obispo Symphony!

Finished, the shawl measures around 34" wide, 17" deep.
