About Us

We, at TriCity Family Services, would be remiss if we did not mention how heavy our hearts were the day we lost Robin Williams.

Erasing the Distance, a mental health organization, states, "Whenever a beloved icon is lost, the world mourns. When an icon known for bringing joy and light to millions of lives succumbs to his own inner darkness, the loss feels all the more painful and shocking. But the sad fact is that depression is a devastating disease that reportedly affects 1 in 10 Americans, and suicide takes the lives of nearly 30,000 Americans every year."

Mental illness doesn't discriminate.  Suicide doesn't discriminate.  Regardless of age, ethnicity or socioeconomic status, most individuals will experience some type of mental health challenge at some point in their lives.

On Sept. 10, TriCity Family Services will be recognizing World Suicide Prevention Day in honor of all those whose lives have been lost to suicide and join other organizations in the world to bring awareness to suicide prevention.

World Suicide Prevention Day brings together individuals and organizations with an interest in suicide prevention, and mobilizes efforts to save lives. The theme of World Suicide Prevention Day is "Suicide Prevention: One World Connected." The theme reflects the fact that connections are important at several levels if we are to combat suicide.

The International Association of Suicide Prevention (IASP) asks that on Sept. 10th, you light a candle near your window at 8 p.m. in recognition of this important day.

It's never too late to educate yourself, advocate for mental health or help a friend in need. As a community, let's move forward together in suicide prevention.

On Saturday, August 9th, TriCity Family Services hosted their summer Trivia Night.  The "Interesting Factoids," team proved that they had a competitive edge and knowledge of all things trivial as they pulled into first place.  The Kane County Chronicle's Brenda Schory and her teammates were delighted to be named as reigning trivia champs. The "Interesting Factoids" are  looking forward to planning the next Trivia Night in November.

TriCity Family Services thanks Batavia Moose Lodge for the use of the venue and also the "Purple Power/Miscella Real Estate" team for their efficient planning and support in raising funds for the agency.

The event netted $1,000 to help TriCity Family Services provide quality, affordable counseling to all ages and all incomes, as well as educational and supportive mental health services to the community at large.

Staff in the Spotlight
It is with great sadness that we say a fond farewell to Miranda Barfuss, Development Manager as she begins a new chapter of her life.   Miranda has been with the agency for over nine years, and has played an integral role in donor development, maintaining relationships with corporate partners, and grant writing.   Miranda's passion for the agency shone through in her esteemed quality of work and enthusiasm she brought to any project set before her. Miranda also loved working with teens that we serve, and was an adult leader on our Wilderness Challenge Program for five years.

On behalf of the staff of TCFS, we wish Miranda the best as she starts her new career at Loaves & Fishes, Naperville as a Special Events Manager.

Miranda plans to continue to serve the agency in the capacity of Board Level Volunteer for the Resource Development Committee.
