Eloquentia : our new review for Catholic Liberal Arts education
Dear friends,
Today at Chavagnes we celebrated the Feast of Blessed John Henry Newman. It was a very moving Latin Mass, with the beautiful Gregorian chant proper Os Justi and two of Newman's hymns: "Praise to the holiest in the height" and "Lead, kindly light." At the end of the Mass, the Fellows of Chavagnes renewed, or made for the first time, their annual promise of service to the work of education here, pledging to work for their own sanctification and that of the youth entrusted to their care.

So I send you greeetings from Chavagnes on this special day for us, and I also want to let you know about an important initiative which is coming soon. you can read about it below.

God bless you,
Sincerely,
Ferdi McDermott, Principal.

An intelllectual apostolate ...
to heal our wounded civilisation
As you may know, we are beginning a new chapter of our life in the College next year, with the launch of our new BA Honours degree programme in the Liberal Arts.

But we're also working to create a new forum for reflection and discussion about Catholic classical education in Europe.

And we'd like you to be part of it.

Our new termly review, Eloquentia, will be THE place where we can discuss and share what we are doing at Chavagnes, and also where a new Catholic humanism can be allowed to take root, develop and flourish on this side of the Atlantic, as it has already begun to do in the United States.

If you want to be part of the intellectual resistance against what Benedict XVI called "the dictatorship of relativism", then join us!

Michaelmas 2015 issue includes, among many others: Ferdi McDermott, Classical education and the state; Professor Anthony O'Hear, The Lost Amazing Crown - The Meaning of Ruskin's Theoretic Faculty;  Dr Thomas Conlon, Maths Matters : Our Debt to Aristotle; Professor John Haldane, The Future of the Catholic University.

Plus international reviews and news in the field of Liberal Arts education.
