A Letter From the President:

We are off to a great start to the 2015 season. The USLRA board has been diligently working on many items and we have exciting news to share with you!

Four amateur tournaments have been held so far this year where 136 competitors attended and rolled 326 matches.  The board has approved a new amateur log time rule.  The new rule states that the log time will match the log number in all cases, regardless on which log the match starts. The log times are 1 minute on the #1 log, 2 minutes on the #2 log, 3 minutes on the #3 log and 4 minutes on the #4 log.  With the new rule, if two competitors agree to start on a #2 log, the time will be 2 minutes.  This will hopefully make things less confusing when running matches. If you have any questions about this change, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Based on an overwhelming positive response in the 2014 USLRA member survey, the USLRA has officially launched online registration! This streamlined, secure system, powered by SportsSignup, allows competitors, associate members and volunteers to register for USLRA membership and shop the US Log Rolling store.  Please click here to register online for the 2015 log rolling season.   If you are a tournament director and would like to use our online system for your tournament's registration needs, or if you have any questions, please contact Shayna Magnone.

Last year the Lumberjack World Championships (LWC) recorded the largest amateur attendance in recent history.  This is great because it shows us that more kids and parents alike are discovering how rewarding and fun log rolling is for our youth.   As we indicated in our 2014 member survey, the increase in amateur participation at LWC has brought with it some challenges with time allowed for the amateur portion.  We are working with LWC to make the competition run as smoothly as possible during this time of tremendous growth.  If you are interested in more information on the event or how to register for the 2015 Lumberjack World Championships, please visit the LWC website or uslogrolling.com.

The board is currently working on many vital projects and we will have many more exciting log rolling developments to share throughout 2015.  If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please let us know.  We are here to promote the sport and to serve our membership and cannot wait to kick off the 2015 competitive summer season!

Sincerely,

Troy Birdsong - USLRA President

USLRA Charitable Fund

The United States Log Rolling Charitable Foundation was established as a 501 (c)(3) to receive charitable contributions to grow the sport of log rolling. Donations are used to enable new programs to obtain a log free of charge (except for shipping). Once the new program is up and running it will repay the foundation over a period of time (up to 3 years). The grant application form is available at uslogrolling.com along with instructional materials and videos that help new programs become successful.

The USLRCF has provided logs for new programs in Minneapolis, West Bend, Oconomowoc Lake and Stoughton and currently has funds available for several additional start-ups.

Current Foundation board members include John Hallett, Katie Rick, Roth Judd and Larry Waite. For more information on donating money or grant applications, contact uslrcf@gmail.com

You Be The Judge!
La Crosse Open
Judge Training

In order to facilitate more consistency in judging, a judges training program has been developed and will roll out  in June. The goal is to educate all of our judges on safety, rules and regulations, provide video clips with explanations of situations that can be difficult to judge, and to put new judges in touch with master judges so there is consistency in the approach and execution of judging at all levels of log rolling. Judge training will be a requirement, and as we roll out the new program, your feedback and ideas will be very valuable. If you have questions, contact Olivia Judd or Joanie Davenport.

Tony

Jamie Fischer of Lumberjack Enterprises has been recognizing the value of log rolling volunteers for years by giving away one free log per year to a lucky volunteer whose name is drawn from a hat.  With a combined total of ten boom running and log rolling world championships under his belt, he has gone on to build a venerable timber sport business that produces high quality, family entertainment throughout the United States.  With a team of 15 lumberjacks he travels the country putting on lumberjack shows, interactive kid's camps and chainsaw carving shows.  Lumberjack Enterprises also provides spike and carpeted log rolling logs for programs and personal use. Prices vary for different sized logs.  Jamie can be reached at 651-269-6606 or Jamie@lumberjackenterprises.com.
