A Message from Honorable James Kaddo Chairman of the Board
Dear Friends,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
This has been a good year for the House of Lebanon because we acquired our new property. Most likely we will take possession by the end of February and we look forward to it. I need your assistance in planning our first receptions for the community, so you can share with us in the acquisition of the building.
Thank you for all your help, dedication and support.

A Message from Mohamed "Mike" Ahmar President
Dear Friends,
We are only a few weeks away from our 5th annual Golf Classic and this year promises to be another exceptional tournament. Last year we played under beautiful blue January skies, for the prestigious Chagoury Cup. We know there is strong competition on the course, but there is also a lot of fun. We hope you will make plans to join us. As we close this year, I wish you all a happy and safe holiday season and look forward to a successful 2013.

Carole Choucair Oueijan writes....
It was a pleasure seeing many artists joining us on our trip to Pasadena last Saturday: Jeanice Deeb and her friend Rima, Reem Hammad, Fadi Ammar, Badea Ammar, Nazareth Minagossian, Tania Baban-Natal, Nouha Sinno and moi. The weather didn't bother us at all... It was just perfect! It was nice meeting new member artist Tania Baban-Natal who immediately made us feel like we know her already. Welcome Tania! We started the day at 10:30 with our early lunch at the Xiem Studio: Manakeesh, lahbaajeen, spinach... So delicious! Ceramics where everywhere. Reem's booth was beautiful. You can see her work in the attached pictures. Many artists bought artwork and Reem's necklaces.
After the fair we all went to the Norton Simon Museum. We first saw a movie about the industrialist, who was once the richest man in America, Norton Simon. We learned how he never entered a museum in his life until he visited The Louvre for the first time when he was 40 years old. This visit was the turning point of his life to become an art lover and collector and then to build this beautiful museum. After the movie the artists were everywhere discovering the paintings, sculptures and the amazing garden.
At 1:30, we met Professor in History of Art, Deana Height, who took us on a tour and a talk about Picasso: Figuration and Abstraction.
After that many artists stayed in the museum to admire more work.
You can see the photos attached on Facebook soon, share it, like it and add your comments. Thank you all for coming, it is always a joy to see you together!

Hiking the Haunted Trails on Halloween
by Michael Alti
On October 28, the HOL Young Professionals embraced the Halloween spirit and ventured off into a haunted forest with nothing but the light of the full moon to guide them. Led by Board Member Michael Alti, the brave souls climbed Echo Mountain north of Altadena to explore its eerie ruins and learn its history. Some of these courageous trekkers even donned Halloween costumes appropriate for the occasion.
Having first opened for business on July 4, 1893, Echo Mountain was the site of a magnificent railway and legendary resort that once ranked as Southern California's most popular tourist attraction. Atop this mountain once stood a 70-room Victorian hotel that rivaled San Diego's Hotel Del Coronado, a chalet, an observatory, a casino, and a dance hall. Sadly, these structures later fell victim to a series of natural disasters, and the ruins of the former resort are now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Young Professionals explored the ruins and especially appreciated testing the famous "echo phone" device once used for communication between the resort and the tavern further up the mountains. The views of the city lights from throughout Southern California were spectacular, offering a great reward for the 2.5 mile climb involved to reach the summit. Best of all, the group enjoyed a unique opportunity for bonding and camaraderie. While no ghosts or goblins were encountered, new friendships were made. Professional photographer Marcella Atallah, who took the pictured photos and baked cookies for the entire group, said, "Hiking to Echo Mountain was so much FUN!!! I had a blast with House of Lebanon friends and capturing memories throughout the night. Looking forward to the next HOL hiking adventure!"
