Planning a renovation or building a new home this year?  If so, framed mirrors are a great way to add a custom touch. Or, replace standard mirrors with framed ones for a quick and high-impact update.

Mirrors: The Powerhouse of Design
In a world of re-purposing, up-cycling, renovating, and updating, the mirror pulls its weight in any room. Set into old frames, new frames, traditional or unconventional frames, DIY or custom designed, a mirror adds a visual punch like no other.
Custom Framing Mirrors

"For decades, bathroom mirrors were attached to unsightly medicine cabinets and had bland, silver metal frames around them. After all, they were utilitarian, serving a function when we brush our teeth, comb our hair, etc. Today, bathrooms are as well designed as the rest of the home. Custom framing allows the mirrors to be integrated into the dcor so they look great, while still serving their purpose." (from larsonjuhl.com)

Not just limited to bathrooms, mirrors have long been coveted by interior decorators as ways to reflect light, create a sense of openness, and add a little polish to any room in the house. Any size and shape is OK--and they're easy to customize to the rest of the room!

Use Your Own Frame

Building a frame to suit your mirror is a great approach when you already have the mirror. What about the other way around? If you have an empty frame that you'd like displayed but don't have any artwork for it, consider a mirror instead! Mirrors go with any frame and can be custom cut for a perfect fit.

This frame was found at a thrift store and we fitted it with a high-quality mirror. You'd never know they weren't meant to be together!
Choosing & Using a Frame

Not all frames are made alike. When picking a frame, material is just as important as looks. Talk with your custom framing designer about your mirror project, and they'll be able to recommend the best options for you.

Frame finishes and how you'd clean it are important things to discuss when selecting a frame for a space like a bathroom. If you've brought in your own frame, your AFT designer will want to inspect the structural quality to make sure the frame will be sturdy enough to hold a heavy object (your mirror!) without complications.

You never know what inspirations may await you--stop in AFT to start your mirror project today!
