New FASB Accounting Standards for Nonprofits Released

The Financial Accounting Standards Board has released the first update to their nonprofit accounting guidelines in two decades. While the current not-for-profit financial reporting model held up well for more than 20 years, this update strives to address concerns about the complexity, insufficient transparency, and limited usefulness of certain aspects of the model.

IRS Further Lowers the Barrier for Entry into the Nonprofit Sector

The IRS has reduced the filing fee for Form 1023-EZ to $275. This change, combined with the fact that it's significantly shorter than the standard Form 1023 and is typically processed 15 times faster, has some worried about a proliferation of "faux and fraudulent nonprofits".
