Concession Contract Highlights Confusion Around For-Profit / Nonprofit Volunteering

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have ended their relationship with New Beginnings, a homeless shelter whose residents volunteered at concession stands in exchange for shelter. The Department of Labor may be asked to investigate New Beginnings, which highlights the murky legal waters of nonprofit volunteers working on behalf of for-profit companies.

Report & Fee to NH Secretary of State Due in 2015

Every five years since 1990, nonprofits are required to file a return and fee to the NH Secretary of State. Instructions and more information will be mailed by the Secretary of State to nonprofits at the principal address on file. Check your organization's principal address on the Secretary of State's website.

Nonprofits failing to file the return may be dissolved.

Make sure your organization complies with all nonprofit regulations and reporting requirements with "Staying Legal with the NH Attorney General", presented by Terry Knowles, Assistant Director of the Charitable Trusts Unit.

Equal Pay Law Change and New Mandatory Poster

As of January 1st, 2015, the text of the Equal Pay Law has been changed, and there is a new mandatory poster for employers.

2014 Fundraising Effectiveness Survey Report

The Urban Institute and the Association of Fundraising Professionals recently released their 2014 Fundraising Effectiveness Survey Report, which compiles data from 2012 to 2013 from more 3,500 nonprofits. Key findings include:

  • Every $100 gained in 2013 was offset by $92 lost in gift attrition.
  • Every 100 donors gained in 2013 was offset by 102 donors lost.
  • The donor retention rate increased from 39% to 43%, and the gift retention rate increased from 40% to 46%.
