A glimpse into the life and thoughts of an artist

The energy of Spring is in the air!

Whether or not you can feel it in the temperatures, you might be feeling it inside yourself. Suddenly the cobwebs are beginning to "clear".

I don't know about you, but I have felt like I've been "slogging" through the last three months.

Now we can finally start in on our dreams for 2014. Spring is the perfect time to take imperfect action!

When we aren't sure what to do first or next, yet we are ready to start, rather than wait until we "know" our next step, take the next step that feels good to you.

Do not wait for the "perfect next step".

When I finished my last painting, I didn't know what to paint next. But that didn't stop me from painting!

Instead, I doodled in my journal.

painting start of a blue horse

I started a few paintings in the class I teach.

I even started to paint the image from a dream of a blue horse I had one morning.

Nothing was clicking with me.

Then one morning as I meditated, an image formed in my mind's eye. I felt the energy build and could hardly wait to get to my studio that morning.

Finally something had clicked for me.

The painting has just begun, almost anything can happen. The painting might work, and it might not.

just the beginning
painting start in which the magic strikes

For the moment, the risk of failure is a risk I enjoy taking.

Picking up the brush to paint involves a certain amount of "magic".

There was a time in life when I wished I had clairvoyance; when I wanted to know what was around the next corner of life for me.

Not any more. Sure, sometimes I still wish I knew the game plan ahead of time, but more often than not I enjoy the surprises, the possibilities that life offers up.

The same is true of painting. If I know for sure what will happen when I touch paintbrush to paper, the magic is gone and so is the thrill.

My desire is for the magic to come through my paintings so that you can feel it inside yourself. When you can feel the magic in my paintings, our connection is complete and life is good.
