Mahalo nui loa to all of you who sent in your title suggestions for my Tiare painting! Your writing truly touched me in ways I hadn't expected.
Jill said that she had long wondered about the name of the Tiare flower and suggested the title Hidden in Plain Sight or In Plain Sight.
Many reflected upon the beauty and simplicity of the flower itself, offering either Puakea (beautiful flower in Hawaiian) or Ka Pua U`i Tiare (the beautiful blossom Tiare).
Ann saw a slightly shy, partially hidden, and beginning-to-show-itself beauty ... emerging to its fullest. She suggested the title Emerging. She went on to say, "Sometimes we write about ourselves and teach what we need to learn." She felt her own need to venture forth, emerging from the cocoon she's been in since moving from Hawai`i.
Other title suggestions include: Tiara Tranquility; Billie's Holiday (Billie Holiday was known for wearing Gardenias in her hair); Fire Within; Forgotten Swan; Gracious Exposure; True Essence; Tenderly Touching Tiare; White Tiare Love; The Fragrance of White; Purity Among Us; Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Stars; Tender Fragrant Tiare; Joy of the Islands; and Possibility (like a budding teenager starting to venture out into the world).
Karen said it seemed to be about wishing to be seen ... to be understood ... to become visible.
David connected the white of the paper showing through the painted areas with the concept of a space being defined by what is around it, as much as by what it actually is. For example a vase can be defined by the hollowness inside as much as by the shape of the vase. He offered the title, Inviting Spaces.
Maryann wrote of the love the flowers had for one another as they live & die on the plant together, & suggested the title, Together Forever.
Then came this poem by Albert:
The Inner Soul
When I first looked at the flowers, I saw them as withering souls, with wrinkles and cracks upon their surfaces. Their tips bent and drooping, as if dying from a hard life.
They seemed almost human in their appearance, as old age sets in. Wrinkles set in and the body is allowed to sag and droop. Their beauty is allowed to slip away and fade and lose their glamour.
As you look deep into the flower and the
person, you can see the golden light in the
middle of their soul. Shining brightly outward and upward, you can see the essence of their being. Then you can
see their true beauty from within.
Albert compared the painting to a human relationship. He said it was the golden centers, the essence of flower that touched him the most.
By sharing your thoughts, feelings, and titles with me, you have all touched my heart and soul. I have decided to title the painting Heart and Souls Tiare in honor of you. All of you who participated will be receiving something from me in the weeks to come.
Thank you ALL for adding beauty and love to the world.

This is what Carol had to say about the classes:
"I just had to say just HOW much I enjoyed the class. I've been raving about it all week. I painted furiously that weekend, and my day off. I've muddled the paint on the hibiscus, so I decided to just keep going with it. Managed to get some depth to one flower, but not the other. It's way over worked, but I'm learning from it. Maybe this weekend I can get to paint again! Thank you for the wonderful class! Can't wait to take another!"
